Garbo[edit]

I dispute the assertion that the rubbish collector is called "garbo" from his street cry; rather the reverse: it's just another case of diminutives in Australian English — a garbage collector is a garbo, pure and simple. If he calls out "garbo" to alert the tardy householder who hasn't put out his bin, it's like the postman calling out "postie" or the milkman "milko".
