Walter the SoftyWalter Brown (character) – The Beano don't even call him this anymore, and he is not a softy anymore either. Thomasfan1000 (talk) 00:25, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - Walter Brown is a very recent name for the character. The name also wasn't mentioned at all on the Walter Brown disambiguation page until I just linked to it. So isn't a WP:COMMONNAME for the character. Also I dont think just (character) is the best disambiguator, (comics) would be better. Eopsid (talk) 09:23, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, Walter Brown (comics) maybe. The Beano themselves don't want the character to go by this name anymore. The modern version of Walter is anything but a softy, and the current Walter will probably remain for a long time. Also, his last name being Brown was first mentioned in 1994. I think since like 2009, he hasn't been called Walter the Softy. Thomasfan1000 (talk) 16:19, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It also depends what they call the character in the article's sources. Most of them use Walter the softy (or softie). 1994 is still 4 decades after the character was introduced. And they never used his full name regularly until 2009. The name isnt used at all in the 1990s cartoon, although its hinted at; he has an uncle called Slasher Brown. I cant remember the Brown surname being used at all in the comic before 2009. Honestly I find how he slowly acquired the surname Brown interesting. It would be good to add the history of it to the article. Eopsid (talk) 18:03, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
