current schedule[edit]

The schedule in Specialty programming section needs to be removed. WP:NOT#DIR specifically says that this kind of content is not appropriate: an article on a radio station generally should not list upcoming events, current promotions, phone numbers, current schedules, etc. Removal of this information has been reverted several times, I'd like to get some consensus from other editors. --Rtphokie (talk) 18:59, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, Rtphokie did not fully quote this section of the WP:NOT#DIR policy:

Directories, directory entries, electronic program guide, or a resource for conducting business. For example, an article on a radio station generally should not list upcoming events, current promotions, phone numbers, current schedules, etc., although mention of major events, promotions or historically significant programme lists and schedules (such as the annual United States network television schedules) may be acceptable.

I believe WVBR-FM's specialty programming IS historically significant. I concede that this section would be far better as prose rather than a list, however it is significant in the context of this radio station. Weathermandan (talk) 19:05, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think there might be a way to have the schedule (sorta) and clear the WP:NOT#NOT rule. Take a look at the "Specialty Shows" list on WWVU-FM. This lists the shows on the station, but doesn't give times. Other ways are to include the shows in an paragraph like this:

WFRB carries "right" leaning talk shows, a reflection of their "right on the issues" slogan. Mornings are led by Quinn and Rose from nearby Pittsburgh station WPGB. Syndication programs from Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Dennis Miller are also heard. The CNN Headline News programs of Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace, along with Showbiz Tonight are simulcasted. CNN Headline News is also heard in the overnight hours.

If the list of programs are included in either form and not in the "5a to 9a - whatever show" form, this will allow the list to remain and clear the WP:NOT#NOT rule. Take Care...NeutralHomer ^talk|edits 19:16, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If this information is important, certainly there is more to say about it than just a list with times. I'm sorry I don't see the section on 'historically significant programme lists' applying here. The example given there is a national television program list with entries going back to the mid 40's. This section is a current schedule on a college radio station in the #285 market in the country. Big difference there. NuetralHomer makes a good suggestion which should satisfy Weathermandan and WP:NOT. --Rtphokie (talk) 19:29, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing of extensive cruft[edit]

As has been noted in my edit summary, this article suffers from violations of WP:NOT#DIR, WP:NOTWEBHOST, and WP:IINFO to name a few. WVBR-FM is not the personal nor professional website for radio station WVBR-FM. User:Weathermandan has admitted his association with this station ([1]) which may be leading to a violation of WP:COI. WVBR-FM is NOT a webpage for the history of this radio station. JPG-GR (talk) 02:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So much for consensus...[edit]

WVBR is a commercial radio station without any formal relationship with a university. Traditionally, area students hold management roles, but it's in no way exclusive. I am quite familiar with WP:COI - and I clearly stated I am a former staff member and member of management of this radio station. Any edits I make on Wikipedia are objective. I'm glad to see that JPG-GR has taken it upon himself/herself to delete half the article without any semblance of consensus here on the Talk page. I also like how Rtphokie recruited the help of his/her minions after he/she reached three reverts on the article.

Oh, and I love the snide comments made on the WikiProject Radio Stations talk page.

I'm gonna follow WP:AGF and assume you've read WP:AGF. Additionally, consensus is not required to enforce policy, such as WP:NOT. None of the information I removed has any place in a Wikipedia article. If WVBR-FM wants to put that information on a subpage, so be it (based on the lack of history acknowledgment by most television and radio stations, I doubt it). Assume good faith? Does that include stalking me so far as to find my personal web site? Gosh, I never thought I'd have to worry about my security when I became a Wiki editor. Despite how resourceful you are in extrapolating my name and personal information, I request that you stay away from my personal web site in the future. Upon doing some research of my own, it's become clear that JPG-GR has a history of brazen edits without second thought or remorse. There's a difference between enforcing policy because of a clear violation, and enforcing policy when it's your opinion there's a problem. In the case of the latter, consensus IS required. But you don't care anyway. I believe JPG-GR's personal vendetta against Neutralhomer also came into play here.

I suppose it's difficult to fathom what a unique institution WVBR is. While I haven't been a "major contributor" to this page as your COI tag suggests, I've kept it on my Watch List to keep an eye on major edits that were made (such as deleting 7KB+ in one swoop). Obviously, consensus dictates that you've won on this one... if consensus means two people.

Your honesty and good intentions are notable. But the way you've approached this conflict with backhanded comments on talk pages, and Google searches with my name is purely despicable. I've just been waiting for an excuse to leave Wikipedia, and you've just snapped the last straw. Worry not, my supposed COI and skewed view of Wiki policy will no longer plague your sacred radio station pages.

In case anyone is still paying attention to this page, I just completed a fairly major edit, adding several references and a bit more additional content. I would like to continue improving this page, and perhaps other Ithaca radio pages at some point, so any guidance/complaints/etc would always be appreciated.
