Requested move[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No Consensus to move; not moved. Even after listing only one other editor participated. The evidence that the album is the primary topic is not substantiated. (non-admin closure) B2C 05:45, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

– Back in 2009 User:Renné move this album page from Vuelve to Vuelve (album) with no edit summary. Generally it is correct if there is a valid reason, like a dab page, but it was not the case. Vuelve redirected to Vuelve (album) until Max24 created a dab page with two links (WP:TWODABS), one about the album and one about the song from this album. Today I added two other songs with no article (WP:NSONGS). This album seems to be the primary topic, in English, of the Spanish word "Vuelve" (translated as "[You] come back"). Relisted. Favonian (talk) 15:01, 13 May 2013 (UTC). Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:38, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How can one link, the only way is to stroll through the book links and see where it means the album, where the single... In ictu oculi (talk)
What I meant is that I live in a Spanish speaking country, and "Vuelve" is a verb (You come back in English), GBooks will give me a lot of books with its title including the word "Vuelve": Por favor, vuelve a casa, Vuelve, maestro..., etc., but this is not Spanish Wikipedia, "Vuelve" is not common in the English world. If I search "Vuelve Ricky Martin" I get multiple Billboard links most of them talking about the album, which is obvious if we consider this v. this. This album became famous because of the successful The Cup of Life. That's why I don't know what are you talking about. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I meant GB for "Vuelve + Ricky Martin", it isn't clear the album is more notable than the song. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:57, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - a second look at GB for "Vuelve + Ricky Martin" confirms first impressions. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:35, 14 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

8 million copies sold ???[edit]

"Vuelve" is a full-length spanish album, during the latin explosion (1998-2001), some artists achieved success outside Latin America and became well-known acts around the world like Ricky Martin, Shakira and Enrique Iglesias, the case here is that "Vuelve" is a spanish album and no matter how succesful an album was in that language, an album in that language wouldn't sell more than 5-6 million copies at the most, the album has sold 900,000 in the US basically and between 200-500K in some countries, 4-5 million copies sold sound reasonable, but 8 million copies is a ridiculous amount to believe, there's no way the album sold that much, the only page as a source that says that is a polish biography of Ricky, that same biography states that "Vuelve" sold as much copies as "Sound Loaded" (His 2nd english studio album), 8 million both albums, so, according to the source, "Vuelve" (a spanish album) sold as much copies as his second english studio album released when he was already a worldwide super star. Alberto279 (talk) 23:25, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Alberto279: find a reliable source and include the 4/5 millions record sold here.--88marcus (talk) 22:21, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@88marcus: believe me, i have tried but what i am saying is pure math, there's no way a full spanish album could sell 8 million copies worldwide, in that case, "Vuelve" would be the best selling latin album of all times, besides the source that states that the album sold that is not a music chart, magazine or any data related to album sales, is a biography that could have been written by anyone, it's better to just remove the 8 million number with the source and leave alone the certifications.
@Alberto279: I agree with you. I found a reliable source that says the album sold 6 million copies. It's included in the article now.--88marcus (talk) 00:11, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@88marcus: that's excellent, we should always keep wikipedia as rel and accurate as possible, 8 million for a spanish album is an insane number, did you add the source in the discography page too?
@Alberto279: yes! ;)--88marcus (talk) 17:09, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • various → Various, as the word is starting the parameter

Background[edit]

Composition[edit]

  • Target to Bomba (Puerto Rico) should solely be on "of the same name"

  • "uptempo number on which the singer" → "uptempo number, on which Martin"
  • What does it incorporate of gospel music; elements or something else?

  • "for ten years" → "for 10 years"
  • Change with Billboard to for Estudio Billboard since that is a TV show she was interview for and it is mentioned by the source
  • "narratives" with the" → "narratives", with the"

Marketing[edit]

Release[edit]

  • The opening sentence of this section should mention the initial release of the album in the US on February 10, 1998, using the ref currently in the lead
Another user had changed the release date. I'm going to stick with the press release since online retails tend to get release dates for older albums wrong.
  • "Sony Music first released" → "Sony Music released"
  • "February 28 in" → "February 24 in" because that is what the source says
  • "in rest of Europe" → "across the rest of Europe"

  • Target dance to Dance music
  • "and the awkward" → "as well as the awkward"
  • "remarked that the artist" → "remarked that the singer"

Critical reception[edit]

  • Remove AllMusic star rating from prose since it is in the ratings box, plus identify the reviewer by his full name
Well star ratings in the prose is usually what I do for all my albums, including my FAs, but I am open to suggestions.

  • "The disc spent twenty-six non-consecutive weeks in" → "The album spent 26 weeks at" per MOS:NUM
  • "It peaked at number forty..." remove the sentence here since you have it elsewhere in more detail
  • The year-end positions should come after the Billboard 200 weekly performance

  • Mention the ranking was in the US

Final comments and verdict[edit]

  •  On hold this is a very long article so congrats; hope you can fix all of the issues! --K. Peake 18:33, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get to work on this either tonight or tomorrow. I spent the day yesterday working on another article and getting it nominated for GA. Erick (talk) 18:37, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Magiciandude I was about to check on you today anyway as I had just finished prepping an article for GAN myself, I can see you have started going through already and good luck with the remainder of the article! --K. Peake 15:53, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kyle Peake: Sorry for the lack of response, life got in the way again. Every time I come from work, I end up passing out. I am very committed to finishing this article as I intend to nominate it FA in the near future. This will probably take me a week to finish. Erick (talk) 14:54, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Magiciandude: It is fine since articles do not have to only remain onhold for a set amount of time; I remember having the same feeling when editing Wiki after work before covid-19 closed my place, so I totally sympathise! --K. Peake 15:09, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Magiciandude Great to see the level of progress you have been making on this recently; will it be finished this weekend probably? --K. Peake 12:42, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Magiciandude Spotted that you have been at work on this today, is it going to be complete tonight or another day? --K. Peake 17:09, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Magiciandude Can't you just run the fix dead links tool or is it not working for you? --K. Peake 07:29, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I had no idea such a tool actually exists! Can you link it so I can use it asap? Archiving all these sources manually gets me burned out pretty quickly. Erick (talk) 14:54, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Magiciandude Click on revision history and select fix dead links. Sorry for the late reply; I did not see your message due to the lack of a mention and I found it after coming here to check on your progress (it has been over a month, hopefully this article will be finished soon). --K. Peake 11:50, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kyle Peake: Oh my God you're a lifesaver! I used the tool on this article and the other article that is currently GAR. I addressed some of your comments above. Erick (talk) 01:11, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Magiciandude: Very glad to hear that, I guess you can always learn something new no matter how long you have been on the site!!!  Pass time for this article now, as I can see you have implemented most of the changes apart from a few which I copyedited in; took a while but to be fair the article is massive, so nice job! --K.
