Parents[edit]

It's great that this article improves, and may be able to stay. On parentage, I think the points are worth re-siting, if a citation can be found, so I retain them here:
...a son of Vesey Henry William Davoren (1862–1944), an Irish surgeon, Major R.A.M.C., and Edith Anne, daughter of Alfred Hoyte, late Surgeon 61st Regiment.

User:7&6=thirteen, how does being a "specific film" make this citation acceptable per WP:IMDB and Wikipedia:Citing IMDb? AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 15:51, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:AleatoryPonderings It's a question of citing and overlinking. Matter of judgment. This is that specific movie. I mentioned it because I considered your edit to be in good faith, and protocol on edit summaries generally mandates that. Too many notes. I am not "edit warring" over this, although I anticipate that criticism from the AFD crowd. Can't make them happy. We can wait for othersto have input, or you can put it back. Whatever floats your boat. Cheers. 7&6=thirteen () 15:59, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a reason to use IMDb when we have other sources. I'm not that fussed about this but I also don't want the filmography to become a pile of IMDb citations. I'll leave it for now. AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 16:03, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I recognize your legitimate concern. But you purged deleted it from the beginning intro of the filmography, too. 7&6=thirteen () 16:35, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In that case there was an actually reliable source to back up the claims made: Alan Goble's Index. I don't want to edit war but I also don't see how there's any question that, in this case, IMDb is not a proper source. Surely there must a reliable source to use instead. AleatoryPonderings (???) Move to Vesey O'Davoren[edit]

Most sources show he is better know as Vesey O'Davoren. We can still keep his full name bold in the lead. Per WP:COMMONNAME eg. Bill Clinton not William Jefferson Clinton. This is not a formal move request, a courtesy I'd like to move it - are there any objections or discussions before? -- GreenC 20:32, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support. In my research I found news articles for "O'Dovoren", "O'Davernon", "O'Lavoran", "O'Davreen", "Davaran" and even "Bavoren" (the last one was an article about a 11/23/1923 traffic stop where an 80-year-old guy walked into traffic and Vesey was the driver than hit him). There's a 12/5/1928 mention in the LA Times for his naturalization as "Davoren" so while that's likely his legal name, he's overwhelmingly known as "O'Davoren" so per WP:COMMONNAME I support for now. It may be that "the great Irishman of the Caravan players" (as he was called in a 9/12/1921 article, as "O'Davernon") has some British film and stage fame without the "O", and if substantial sourcing can be found there we could change it back.
