New Article[edit]

Good call on creating this article, fits in well with what would be an ideal sturcure for the Olympics pages Robdurbar 14:47, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

BMX/OWS?[edit]

Apparently BMX bike racing and open-water swimming are added as Olympic events starting in 2008. Is there any word on the London venues for these sports? Radagast 22:22, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Olympic Park Masterplan![edit]

I just heard from a recent news report that the plans for the London Olympic Park have been revised! Several sports venues have been moved to different locations.

The new plan will consist of:

The Olympic Stadium The Aquatics Centre The Athletes Village Handball Arena

  • Basketball Arena
  • Fencing Hall
  • Velodrome
  • BMX Track
  • Paralympic Tennis and Archery
  • MPC/IBC

(*-the venue has moved to a different location)

In addition to that, Volleyball has moved to Earls Court. Jim856796 00:04, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Marathon[edit]

Has the route of the marathon been decided? If so it would be good to include an outline. Same goes for walking events etc.--MarkyParky 11:47, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The London 2012 website's interactive map has a dotted line on it to illustrate the Marathon Route, but the details are far from precise. Safe to say it will take in some of Central Londons most recognisable landmarks, but I don't think we should go adding details until theres something more concrete.

Windsor Park?[edit]

Can't find reference to WP on www.london2012.com, other than in a report dated 2004. The candidate file submitted doesn't mention it in the football venues so I suspect it's been struck off the final list. 193.118.251.61 17:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Newoldtrafford.jpg[edit]

Image:Newoldtrafford.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Baseball and Softball[edit]

Are these sports out of the program permanently or just for the 1012 Games. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandlerjoeyross (talkcontribs) 12:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They can be re-added for future games, but this would require a majority vote from the members of the IOC (I think!) Paulbrock (talk) 15:19, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LACKING[edit]

This article lacks three of the most important venues.

1.Where is a picture of the Olympic Stadium? 2.Where is a picture of the aquatics centre? 3.Where is a picture of the fantastic velodrome!?

Poor Quantity & Quality of Citations[edit]

This article does need to be improved with citations. There's substantial OR in here and, if not, secondary sources aren't adequately cited. Propose that new content is supported adequately and that a retrospective fact-hunt begins --John Gibbard (talk) 12:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:London Olympic Stadium (Nov 2007).jpg[edit]

The image Image:London Olympic Stadium (Nov 2007).jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

The following images also have this problem:

Hadleigh Farm[edit]

The majority of sources call the Olympic Venue "Hadleigh Farm", whilst we name it "Hadleigh Country Park". The two have separate websites (http://www.hadleighfarm.co.uk/ http://www.hadleighcountrypark.co.uk/) and the country park one mentions the farm, but I can't really work out the relationship between the two. The farm is 900 acres in size compared to the country park at 387 acres, so it is possible that the park is within the land of the farm? I think we should perhaps change the text and boxes to read Hadleigh Farm, as I don't think the two are synonyms.

Either way, I think that these could possibly be split into their own article away from Hadleigh Castle, now that they have the status of olympic venue?

Wembley Arena[edit]

I have believe that a decision may have been taken to make the Arena an Olynpic venue for Badminton & rhythmic dancing. [1] David Thrale (talk) 11:33, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'Flat Pack Olympics' Not Addressed?[edit]

Hmm, The so-called 'Flat Pack Olympics' (due to so many venues having no legacy and being constructed of 'flat packs') seems to have no entry here, why is that? The issue has received wide coverage and British Shooting is seeking a judicial review. See:

Map of London[edit]

Add venues please...

Would it be very hard to have a location map of London with the venues located on the map? - 83.128.68.162 (talk) 17:39, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is it really that hard to make such a map? - FakirNL (talk) 00:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Water Polo Arena[edit]

All the mentions of the Water Polo Arena were redirects to the London Aquatics Centre article. This was both incorrect, and the latter didn't provide any mention of water polo as a section within itself. Have created a stand-alone Water Polo Arena page. Olympic village : Where ?[edit]

Where will the Olympic and Paralympic village be built ? The article does not say it. 84.227.195.22 (talk) 07:25, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Venues Map[edit]

Is it possible for a detailed map showing the all the olympic venues within London and also outside of London to be made as it look good and show where all the different venues are and link it in to the main article, I propose a detailed map of the Olympic Zone showing the locations of the Olympic Stadium, Aquatic Centre Hockey Stadiums and the Olympic Villege ect and I also propose maps for the River Zone, Central Zone and also the venues that are just outside of London, weither these are merged into just one or two maps is up for dissusion although I think the Olympic Zone should be totaly separate at the very least and I also think suggest separate maps for the Football venues which has aleady been done and also a small map highlightening Weymouth as the sailing venue. I would like to do this myself but I am not expert in making detailed maps so I am very happy for someone else to make a go of it. In short I suggest

Detailed Map of Olympic Zone Venues & Olympic Villege, Detailed Map of River and Central Zone Venues, Detailed Map of Venues just outside of London ie possibly inculding Weymouth, Detailed Map of Football Venues (This has already and can be easily accessed),

New versus existing venues[edit]

I really like how the FL Venues of the 2008 Summer Olympics has the venues sorted by whether they are new, existing, or temporary. While I do like the current organization of this, a great addition would be either some sort of coding to show which venues are new or old or a table column with construction year. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 04:52, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is the term "white elephant" in the first section the best term?[edit]

"In the wake of the problems that plagued the Millennium Dome, the intention is that there will be no white elephants after the games"

I don't feel like that is a common enough expression to use, even if it describes the situation. How about: "In the wake of the problems that plagued the Millennium Dome, the intention is that there will be no unused facilities after the games." Wikifier (talk) 18:36, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Map of Venues[edit]

I've created a couple maps which might be useful in this article. They can be seen at User:Thelb4/Sandbox. They show London and the UK, with Olympic and Paralympic venues marked on them. Thelb4(talk) 08:18, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Olympic Park Map[edit]

Could a map s similar to the file shown above be created to show the Olympic. Park has it was for the 2012 Olympics in London as well as maps for the other venues that were used? (94.3.222.1 (talk) 20:56, 16 February 2014 (UTC))[reply]

  • I agree that a detailed map like that which was created for the Sochi games showing the coastal cluster as it would really add to the page and give a much more detailed idea of how the Olympic Park was arranged specifically for the games themselves back in London in 2012. A separate Map could also be created to show the park as it will be under its legacy mode. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 21:03, 16 February 2014 (UTC))[reply]
