PR?[edit]

This entire article reads like a Val Valentino press release. There is no mention of the controversy surrounding his exposure of magic tricks. --Jamiem 02:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Common consensus in the magic community is that he was frustrated that he couldn't make a name for himself int he magic community, so he became the masked magician to gain notoriety. I think it's completely logical to assume that he doesn't in fact hate his wiki page, but brings it up to his friends whenever he can push it into conversation. This article needs to include all of the controversy that he created, because that is the whole reason he is famous. For causing controversy. So why shouldn't that be on his page? Unencyclopedic article[edit]

I placed the "tone" tag on this article, as it bears little resemblance to an encyclopedic article. A few of phrases desparately need to be changed; examples include "fend off the bullies that roamed his neighborhood" (really? they just patrolled the streets, looking for people to beat up?); "becoming the Masked Magician put a kibosh on that dream" (this might be the only WP article to use the word "kibosh"); and "By the time the 1980s ended and the 1990s rolled around" (no explanation needed). In addition, the "Later career" section is so POV that it might as well be removed altogether. The "Filmography" also must be changed to reflect the fact that he made guest appearances on these shows; it's not as if Valentino was on "Regis and Kathie Lee" every week. Overall, this article could certainly be salvaged, but not without some work. -- Kicking222 14:38, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wondered where the rest of the article went...and I thought it was just because of the people who bitched that it sounded a press release.

You guys know that Val hates this page, right? He's asked various people to change it for him, but most people don't want to get embroiled in the battles that occur on this site.

So what's his name?[edit]

Val Valentino, Leonard Montano, Masked Magician? He's born Leonard Monatano, then his first stage name was Val Valentino, and another one is Masked Magician? Or is his real name now Val Valentino? His real name is Val Valentino. I just saw him on a brazilian tv show and that's what he said when he was asked what his real name was. :)

Yeah, but no one believes that it is, because they're all too lazy to get off their asses and research whether or not there was actually a name change.

As to what his stage name is, he used to go by "Valentino" before the specials and for a little bit after, but he apparently fell in love with the persona, because his website and his MySpace are all "Masked Magician" and very little to do with "Valentino".

That reminds me...today's date is Sunday, October 7, 2007. I'm marking the date because I want to see how long it takes you assholes to take down the link to his MySpace profile because there's no certificate of authenticity or notary-sealed document proving that the profile really is his. (There's a link to the profile on his official site, but knowing all of you, you'll find a way to discredit it. Which reminds me...why are you letting the link for the official site stay on? No one can prove that it's really his!)

You guys make me laugh[edit]

You know, I find it interesting that you guys used to argue about the verifiability of the copy that DRyelle wrote for this page until you were blue in the fingertips; yet when she managed to get the same article published on IMDb.com, you used it to cite this article!

Because of Wikipedia's No Original Research policy, we cannot accept material that has not already been published in reliable source. Although IMDb is not considered reliable, the material you're referring to would now be in line with the verifiability policy, but should probably still be tagged as {{OR}} or removed. -- Ϫ 05:02, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Race?[edit]

Could someone find/post a citation for the information about Val being Armenian-Italian and not Latino? Given that he speaks Spanish, grew up in East LA and attended the Alma Awards in 1999, I always assumed that he was Latino...seeing real, verifiable proof would mean a lot to me.

Otherwise, I vote for throwing it out under the whole "no original research" policy, as I've not seen this particular racial attribution anywhere since he "came onto the scene" about fourteen years ago. 207.179.119.74 (talk) 04:25, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Latin American Academy Award?[edit]

Re: the image in the infobox. I have no idea what this means. I don't think there is such a thing officially named "Latin American Academy Award". Many countries have their version of our Oscars, such as Mexico's Ariel Award. In the US there is the ALMA Award, and there is a picture of him attending in 1999, but no indication he won an award. Maybe someone can recognize the award he is holding, it looks similar to an Oscar but on a different looking base.--Nyctc7 (talk) 17:48, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
