Added section cleanup tag to "Tourism"

The Tourism section of this article contains the same text as the "Education" section, and so it really has nothing to do with Tourism in UP. If anyone is familiar with the tourism aspect in Uttar Pradesh, it'd be great to have your input here. Unfortunately I don't know enough about that to fix it myself, although i can copyedit if needed.

thanks.

unwarranted deletion

Someone has deleted the text referring to the Aryan settlement in Uttar Pradesh. This is the accepted part of history, and although some people belonging to extreme right ideology disagree, the evidence to the contrary is not strong. In any case, since Wikipedia accepts only the 'accepted knowledge', instead of deleting the texts that don't agree with one's 'ideologies', one should add a line saying that there is an alternative view to the issue.

unwarranted addition

A user (probably the same who did the above) has also added his personal site's information on this page. This is also against the rules of wikipedia. Therefore I'm deleting it.

Unsupported lists

A section called "Statistical Info" with several lists were quite interesting, but without any numbers or references, they appear to be weak and without any means of support. For example, what does it mean for a city to be among the "richest" - how does this differ from the "cities with highest GDP"? The numbers for this are needed here.

I have deleted them for now, but perhaps they deserve reinstatement with more details:mukerjee (talk) 02:12, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Contradictory statements

The section "Constituent Regions" appears to consider Uttarakhand a part of Uttar Pradesh, and contradicts the third paragraph of the introduction. Wrong statistics in Cottage-Handicrafts section??

It says that 200,000 artisans are involved. Please recheck; it seems too small. I know, Saharanpur alone has more wood-carvers. Wiki dr mahmad (talk) 16:29, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

The whole "Handloom & Handicrafts" is written in hyperboles without any reference. It will be great to verify it if anyone can direct us to some reliable source. Docku (talk) 17:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
In fact, I am thinking of removing the section in a reasonable time if no one is going to back it up with any reference. Docku (talk) 20:45, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Hyperbole & POV

This article has a lot of hyperbole, POV, and some things that just don't have context. Just to name a few examples:

Article review

Recently few Users have massively revamped Uttar Pradesh article. Although any positive edits are welcomed but large scale revisions and revamps are advised to be done after discussion and consensus especially on articles of priority. It should be ensured that matter being removed while cleanup should be put in appropriate articles/sections or archived. If there is any info for which ref is not provide it should not be removed rampatly but first efforts should be made to find refs.

Before making any major revamp on the article plz have a discussion here.--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haider Rizvi (talk) 10:41, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Population number is absurd

The population given for UP, 2,190,891,000, exceeds the population given for all of India by nearly a factor of two. It would be good if someone could find a better number and use it here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.188.161.5 (talk) 15:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Lucknow and a seal of Uttar-Pradesh

I spotted one interesting thing. Lucknow sounds like a typical slavic city (compare Moscow, Tambow, Krakow, Warsow, Byckhow etc). Furthermore, if you look at Uttar-Pradesh seal, you will find a bow and a bended river. Surprisingly, In Russian [luck] literally means a bow while [izLUCHina] a bow-shaped part of a river. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.14.98.155 (talk) 03:18, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

An intresting analysis!
About name part, Lucknow if spelled accordng to local pronounciation (& not the anglicized one) will be Lakhnau.
About seal part, fish is thought to be denoting luck in Awadhi culture and have been part of seal of lacal kingdoms as early as Mauryan empire (i.e. older than 300 B.C.) while bow-arrow are weapons depicting valour and the Y river depicts merger of two great rivers of Gangetic plains i.e. Ganga & Yamuna (Ganga-Yamuna are also used to depict two prominent religions of the state i.e. Hinduism & Islam).

Date gap?

From this article:

"including the Mauryan (320–200 BCE), Kushan (100–250 CE)"

From the linked articles in the head: Mauryan 321 to 185 BC Sunga 185- 45 BC Kushan 127 CE

Then the Kujula Kadphises article contradicts the previous articles.

This, is a complete mess and I can't sort it out because there are no connecting sources.

I also have no idea the times/dates on which regions were conquered approximately when.

So if I get this right, this article says that the Mauryan empire started 320 BCE.... But the actual Mauryan article claims to 321 BCE. Then the Kushan article is a mess too... Because that says the Kingdom was established 127 CE, but said that the first ruler started 30 CE, with no clarification of how far his kingdom stretched how and when.

This puts the articles in opposition to each other and the dates as wholly confusing. Please, please repair the damage, set the articles straight and figure out a sane chronology. I really need references for this too... because as I can see it, I can't figure out if Kujula Kadphises was controlling Ayodhya in 48 CE, or who was in control at that time and if he wasn't then who was controlling that area, and the Ayodhya article is no better because it's outlinking to these conflicting articles with no references.

This gets more confusing because there are out article claims that Ayodhya was controlled by the Mishra Royal family in 48 CE, which contradicts the article, which in turn makes my life so much more confusing. I need these articles to be straight in terms of their chronology. Thank you.--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 10:46, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Ready to help, I am aware of the issue but find myself not enough to do job such big if you (or matter of fact any sane editor with intrest) are ready we can start with things. Surely we need to discuss before moving ahead.--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 16:19, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
First would be to find reliable sources according the wikipedia guidelines. That'll clear up which are correct, then after that the fixes become easy.--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 05:00, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

major cities?

There must be some benchmark to include a city into the list of major cities in the article. Everybody seems to insert ones favourite in the list. It may be population, area, importance (as per history, tourism, economy, etc) or as per govt. classification (GOI & GOUP classifies cities as A, B, C, etc).--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 16:30, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Removed the sub-section as we still don't have any standard and everybody wants their city to be listed.--Sayed Mohammad Faiz Haidertcs 01:12, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Education section

The education section in the article is unnecessarily long. Keeping in view that Education in Uttar Pradesh is an article in itself, there is no need for such a large description on this page.

For example, there is no need for details like:

Aligarh Muslim University is a residential academic institution. This entire university is spread in over 21.5 km2. Modelled on the British University of Cambridge, it was established by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1875 – then named as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College – and in 1920 it was granted the status of a Central University by an Act of Indian Parliament. Located in the city of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India, it was among the first institutions of higher learning set up during the British Raj.

We may mention that UP has a university by this name, but this is an article about UP, not "Aligarh Muslim University". Same thing applies for all the other institutes listed with their history.--Siddhartha Ghai (talk) 21:54, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Length of introduction

Obviously UP is an important article not to mention State, but the introduction currently breaches the general guidance for Lede length - see Wikipedia:LEDE#Length for more info. It is supposed to be four paras for an article of this length and right now the article intro has six paragraphs. I would suggest that paragraphs four and five, which are about the history of the state could be shortened and merged; the sixth para, which is demographics, could be tersely rewritten into paragraph one, which also covers population structure. Thoughts welcomed. Jamesinderbyshire (talk) 20:47, 25 April 2011 (UTC)

Please leave GOCE in-use tag on

At 9,000-words-plus, this article is too big to copyedit in a day. Although the tag says it can be removed if the page has not been edited for several hours, the general real-world rule is to leave it unless the page hasn't been touched for 24 hours or more. If you want this article copyedited, please let me (or another copyeditor) do our jobs; I took a few hours off to sleep. Thanks and all the best, Miniapolis (talk) 14:44, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

After noticing a number of uncontroversial edits had been reverted (alt text and copyediting in accordance with the Manual of Style), I've left a note on Sambharat's talk page. If my attempts to copyedit (requested by the tag at the top of the article) continue being reverted, I'll advise my fellow Guild Of Copy Editors members and consider the appropriate noticeboard. Okay, you can have your article as is. I tried, in good faith, to copyedit it (since it had a {{copyedit}} tag, was on a topic which interested me and certainly needed the work), but several hours of patient editing was reverted by Sambharat (who provided no edit summary) and now an IP is adding large quantities of questionable content despite the {{GOCEinuse}} tag (which I just removed). Removing subsection Proposal to split into smaller states

Content

After the split of Uttarakhand in 2000, numerous groups have proposed that the state of Uttar Pradesh be further split into smaller states. Those who support this reorganisation argue this as a bid to improve governance of one of the poorest states in India. With a population greater than Brazil, and divergent needs of the population across the state, it is difficult to propose, agree on and then deliver on public policies necessary for inclusive growth of its citizens. The complicated federal structure of India, wherein many locally pressing development projects proposed by states such as Uttar Pradesh require central government approval, complicates matters and causes bureaucratic delays running into years.

Splitting the state into smaller states, these supporters claim, would foster development, decentralisation of power, and accountability. Those who oppose this initiative argue that the split is motivated by political needs.[1][2][3]

In November 2011, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati announced she would table the proposal to divide UP into four smaller states in the winter session of the state assembly starting 21 November. Her cabinet approved the proposal, and thereafter the democratically elected representatives of the state assembly approved the proposal to split the state into four smaller states.

The four parts will be Paschim Pradesh, Awadh Pradesh, Bundelkhand and Poorvanchal. The proposed new states are currently western UP, central UP, southwestern UP and eastern UP, respectively.[4]

NPOV tag

I don't have time at the moment to check the whole article, but I've just had to scrape out a bunch of very strong POV from the lead and the beginning of the culture section. I don't know if these are part of the recent additions, or are from older versions, but this whole article needs to be checked for neutrality. I'll try to do so if I have time this week. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:57, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Lead section is the summary of the article, I am unaware with what you've found that describes very strong POV. Admitting your view for culture section but the whole article doesn't violate Neutrality policy .Thank you 25 CENTS VICTORIOUSϟ 05:28, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't notice your response here. That tag wasn't for the lead section--it was for the entire article. I'm only halfway through, and I've had to pull out all sorts of problems, cleanup phrasing, remove unreliable sources, and the like. I have to pause work on this now (I got down through "Government" today), but there's definitely still a lot of work to do here. You may want to consider pulling back the peer review at this time. Map problem

In the ' Map of Uttar Pradesh ' (Template Picture), bordering States are shown with two-letter abbreviations (used for the State's Vehicle Registration purposes also). In this, for the State of Chhattisgarh, it is indicated as " CH ", which is incorrect. It should be " CG " for Chhattisgarh, whereas " CH " actually is the abbreviation for the Union Territory of Chandigarh.--68.193.2.168 (talk) 23:38, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, fixing the map requires someone who knows how to deal with pictures to edit it--it's not something that most editors can do. Your best bet is to contact the person who uploaded the picture and ask them to make a new one, if they're still actively editing. We could, conceivably remove the picture now while it's wrong, but I don't know if it's worth removing the whole thing due to a one letter error. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:38, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
👍 25 Cents FC likes this. Well said Qwyrxian and most important thing is people will come to know about Uttar Pradesh. That abbreviation is minor problem and we can't remove the whole map cos of one letter error. --25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 07:06, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Agreed; thank you for your suggestion, which is logical in the present context. The main purpose of the map is to highlight Uttar Pradesh only.--68.193.2.168 (talk) 16:41, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to do so, but it will not pass. I just barely glanced at the cultural section, and it's filled with unsourced claims, puffery, and other POV problems. "Has a special place in the world of..." "Major centre for musical innovation" "great musician"...all of these violate WP:NPOV and are unsourced. Someone needs to to a thorough going over of the rest. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:27, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, i have cleaned up all that crap violating [[WP:NPOV] but instead of nominating this one kindly think of improving the article. thanks--Adamstraw99 (talk) 03:36, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Adamstraw99, I'm pretty sure you fail to see GA but anyways let me tell you improved article already. There maybe chance of having some minor errors but that doesnt mean it will not pass.Everything looks fine. 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 14:14, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I tend to agree with Qwyrxian. There are many POV phrases in the article but they can be fixed. The main problem I see is that, many facts are unsourced throughout the article. To achieve GA status, no statement in the article should be unsourced and every claim must have a reliable third party, and in rare cases, primary or secondary source. The article has large amount of sentences unsourced which is indeed the main issue, with the other serious issue being the POV in few claims, especially in Culture. So far, 25C has did remarkable job and has significantly improved the article. His dedication and work is superb and I appreciate it as the article was in a hell of a bad state previously. Once sources to every claim is provided, I shall do some overhaul over here to fix the POVs. Cheers! TheSpecialUser TSU 15:09, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Criteria

Good Article Status - Review Criteria

A good article is—

  1. Well-written:
  2. (a) the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct; and
    (b) it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.[1]
  3. Verifiable with no original research:
  4. (a) it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline;
    (b) reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose);[2] and
    (c) it contains no original research.
  5. Broad in its coverage:
  6. (a) it addresses the main aspects of the topic;[3] and
    (b) it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  7. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  8. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
  9. [4]
  10. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
  11. [5]
    (a) media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content; and
    (b) media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.[6]

Discussion

The citations are not consistently formatted (not required for GA). Given the rapid changes taking place in the state, factual updates will be necessary, and care will be needed with time-dependent statements and comparisons with other states. The article is already quite long; if it grows much further, division into main and subsidiary topics might be necessary.

Additional Notes

  1. ^ Compliance with other aspects of the Manual of Style, or the Manual of Style mainpage or subpages of the guides listed, is not required for good articles.
  2. ^ Either parenthetical references or footnotes can be used for in-line citations, but not both in the same article.
  3. ^ This requirement is significantly weaker than the "comprehensiveness" required of featured articles; it allows shorter articles, articles that do not cover every major fact or detail, and overviews of large topics.
  4. ^ Vandalism reversions, proposals to split or merge content, good faith improvements to the page (such as copy editing), and changes based on reviewers' suggestions do not apply. Nominations for articles that are unstable because of unconstructive editing should be placed on hold.
  5. ^ Other media, such as video and sound clips, are also covered by this criterion.
  6. ^ The presence of images is not, in itself, a requirement. However, if images (or other media) with acceptable copyright status are appropriate and readily available, then some such images should be provided.

Tourism POV

The tourism section is full of non-neutral phrases. I don't have time right now to fix it, so I've just tagged it. Also, it appears that a large portion of that section is unsourced; that needs to be fixed as well. Qwyrxian (talk) 12:45, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Request

This article was in such a bad condition, i cannot tell you. Took a lot of time and energy to make it of GA level. Please don't add pictures or images or any related content which could bring it to its worst position. Feel free to edit but cautiously. Thank You --25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  12:21, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

News things.

Some users are adding daily news that is happening in state. One thing I would like to remind all of them, this article is about a state in India. Not some news portal. Add all news materials to your own blog or site. Spare this place. Thanks. --25 CENTS VICTORIOUS  15:03, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

A table is required in this section. It looks horrific, like someone spilled ink on a blank page. Don't need to specify quantities a table would suffice i guess. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shawrix (talkcontribs) 14:36, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Script on infoboxes on UP-related geographic entities

Recently they've been removed from some of them, but as UP has Hindi and Urdu as its official language and additional official language respectively, I added the two scripts back in. It should be uncontroversial that UP and sub-geographic entities should have Hindi and Urdu script in the infoboxes, as is general convention on articles on geographic entities in areas where a non-Roman script is dominant. This does not run into problems with WP:INDICSCRIPT, which is currently a WikiProject India guideline that only covered the lead, not infoboxes. (Right now, there's not established layout of the two scripts, but this will be resolved in time.) Thanks. ʙʌsʌwʌʟʌ тʌʟк 05:15, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Please keep the discussion in one place. El_C 19:24, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
Yes, the only discussion about languages in the infobox for UP-related geographic entities is located here, as far as I can tell. This discussion doesn't have any impact outside of UP-related geographic entities. ʙʌsʌwʌʟʌ тʌʟк 19:58, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Aesthetics of Geography Photos

Any reason the monsoon and climate images are not on the left? I know generally that images on the left can make the text feel choked, but that feels superior here to the giant white space from stacking too many images on the right. CM (talk) 14:56, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

Terms need to be comprehensible to non-Indian readers without having to check the wikilinks

Re: this edit @SovalValtos:

I would like to reiterate that in this case, the Wikilinks aren't sufficient. Imagine if this article was printed out, just hardcopy, without the benefit of wikilinks. You'll need a non-Indian audience to largely understand it. The wikilinks can provide a further explanation, but basic readability is something that one needs to strongly consider. Having a large number of incomprehensible terms without a basic explanation, when a basic explanation can be provided, could simply be a disincentive to read the section.

In addition, the term chawal just points to rice. Why don't we just say that?

TLDR ("too long, didn't read": meaning the summary of this): This Wikipedia is made for a global audience and it needs to reflect this WhisperToMe (talk) 07:51, 16 March 2019 (UTC)

For the moment WhisperToMe I am just going to make observations related to the first para in the Cuisine section. As I see it the article is written in Indian English. Where there are words included in the text only used in Indian English that is allowed. If there are Indian English words that can be substituted by ones more generally understood in more varieties of English whilst still being understandable in Indian English, that is desireable. The words in question: thali, roti, chawal, dal, sabji, raita, papad, chaach, tava, thali, puri, Kachauri, pulav, sewai and Kheer. I see that you added explanations for chawal and sabji; roti and tava already being explained. Please can you explain on what basis you decided to explain just two, leaving both unlinked and unexplained others? Were they the only two incomprehensible to you? In general the assumption for basic readability should not be that the reader is ignorant. If I am personally ignorant of some word or phrase I would follow a link or look it up. If a hard copy was printed, I would then use a suitable reference book. Not a simple subject whether to change, link or explain words. Looking further afield in the article there could be as much in the way of explanation as text if we are not careful. Best wishes.SovalValtos (talk) 20:03, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply! A few things:
1. I chose "chawal" and "sabji" because they redirect to "rice" and "curry", respectively. Indeed WP:ENGVAR does say to use international terms instead of country-specific terms when possible. Because I didn't know if they were just specific North Indian words for those or if they were actually referring to a type of rice/curry, I left the words in, but added the explanations.
2. The reality is many people are ignorant, or not even ignorant, but just plain uneducated. Our job at Wikipedia is to cater to the common person, not only someone educated. If you pulled off a 55-year old truck driver in Middle America or a 62-year old pensioner in the north of England, they may not know any of those terms. They may get so overwhelmed that, instead of taking minutes to look up the terms, they just stop reading the section/article. They are our readers just as much as the fairly educated IT programmer or high school teacher.
3. It is technically possible someone could find a reference book, but many libraries in the U.S. wouldn't have one like that, and it's really a concern about having so many terms at once not being defined when short descriptions in parentheses would make them more comprehensible for non-Indians.
WhisperToMe (talk) 20:15, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
I would like to see input here from others. I was thanked by User:Fylindfotberserk for reverting the parenthesis, so perhaps they might join in. I am not against parenthesis per se, but will not support replacement until a broader look has been taken. I note the para is unsourced and perhaps could benefit from being re-written in more general terms without listing so many food items, thus alleviating the problem of too much in parenthesis that might otherwise be needed. There is the Main article: Cuisine of Uttar Pradesh so some simplification could be justified. I am pleased we agree about WP:ENGVAR and international terms.
The stereotypical examples of people you give WhisperToMe do not help in pitching the writing level. I am not even sure whether the pensioner or the IT programmer is more likely to know the words! I see you are an admin, can you direct me to the appropriate place for defining our target audience? I rather doubt if it is the very young, ignorant or those not educated to a certain level. I may not be able to comment again soon.SovalValtos (talk) 19:02, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
I found Wikipedia:Make technical articles understandable. The general principle is: "The content in articles in Wikipedia should be written as far as possible for the widest possible general audience." - The guideline explains there are three levels of readers: one of them being general reader ("has no advanced education in the topic's field, is largely unfamiliar with the topic itself, and may even be unsure what the topic is.") along with the knowledgeable and expert reader levels.
  • It is true that some subjects are just very, very technical, and that some can't be oversimplified (the guideline cautions against making things oversimplified), but it does state: "Most Wikipedia articles can be written to be fully understandable by the general reader with average reading ability and motivation. Some articles are themselves technical in nature and some articles have technical sections or aspects. Many of these can still be written to be understandable to a wide audience." (my emphasis added)
There are certainly pensioners and truck drivers who do happen to be very well educated on faraway regions, and there are some computer programmers who never studied faraway regions, but my point is we do in fact cater to the stereotypical audience I described. A lot of people from more educated backgrounds need to understand that the general reader includes people who are not as educated. From my own experience, many Americans know very little about foreign countries, especially those not of educated backgrounds or who haven't been in the military.
Also see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Technical_language which states: "Some topics are intrinsically technical, but editors should try to make them understandable to as many readers as possible. Minimize jargon, or at least explain it or tag it using {{Technical}} or {{Technical-statement}} for other editors to fix." I would count some of these words as jargon in regards to foreign readers.
WhisperToMe (talk) 19:15, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
@SovalValtos: I don't think parentheses are necessary in this main article. Cuisine of Uttar Pradesh already exists. Secondly, state articles like Punjab, India, Uttarakhand, Gujarat do not have there parenthesized meanings either. Let's see what DBigXray has to say - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:09, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
The state articles are proper names, so they wouldn't need to have parenthenses. It seems like, from what DBIg said, "rice" would be better used anyway. The other major word I parenthensized was curry... WhisperToMe (talk) 13:56, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
  • I have only read the first 2 comments. Please do not use "Chawal" in english wiki. "Rice" is the perfectly valid and widely used and acceptable Indian English word. For example, even Hindi speaking regions mention Rice in their English Menu in restaurants. If there are other words being debated, please list them. I would prefer to deal with them on a case by case basis. regards.--DBigXray 10:52, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
    • The other words are: "dal, sabji, raita and papad." Since sabji redirects to curry I added "curry" in parenthenses. WhisperToMe (talk) 13:43, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
WhisperToMe, By state articles I meant the Wiki articles on Punjab, Gujarat and Uttarakhand do not have parenthesized English meanings of local cuisines. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:30, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Oh, I see! Anyway from Uttarakhand I saw other ways of "defining" words: "Bal Mithai is a popular fudge-like sweet." and "Buckwheat (locally called Kotu or Kuttu)" and "the use of hash seeds Jakhiya as spice". No parenthenses, but the words are defined anyway in the text. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:37, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
I am pleased to see the progress on the general subject so far, but without a source for the material in the para, it seems rather futile trying to polish the wording or simplify without a good foundation that can be checked for what was intended. I am labelling it citation needed. The Main article: Cuisine of Uttar Pradesh looks to be particularly poorly sourced so far and therefore not very helpful. I listed 15 terms in my first reply [1] User:DBigXray that could be dealt with on a case by case basis if you wish.SovalValtos (talk) 09:42, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Chero dynasty

At the end of section on history of Ancient and classical period, we have the following:After fall of Pala empire, the Chero dynasty ruled from 12th century to 18th century.[1] The text gives the impression that the Chero ruled all of UP during this period. Also it does not say anything about the rulers being vassals of other states.Let us discuss whether this needs amending.Thanks.Jonathansammy (talk) 19:40, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Incorrect link in Dress section

When the article discusses "topi" as traditional headgear (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uttar_Pradesh#Dress), the link goes to the animal topi (Damaliscus lunatus jimela). I would normally fix it by changing the link to the correct page but the disambiguation page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topi_(disambiguation)) lists several different types of headgear from India and I am not confident I could select the correct one. Please can someone with greater knowledge fix it? 86.25.176.176 (talk) 23:28, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Editors are requested no to loose their mind stating the state is Hindu majority state so why The Taj Mahal, crime is reduced so why crime section, why no mention of current CM of the state etc. Please avoid unnecessary conflict and political controversies, will be removed in no time. Please update GSDP and Per capita figures (2020-21) as per Source [2] (Government of India). GDP should be (15.12 lakh crore) and Per capita (65431). Please note you need in update both in Infobox and main Lead para of the article. Remove old sources and add current sources. Thanks--115.98.34.0 (talk) 09:12, 12 February 2022 (UTC)

@NaSaSh: Please reverted your last edit. The GDP you've put is completely wrong and MOSPI no longer publishes that data. Please use current data which I have put taken from Government of India Economic Survey of India. Moreover mospi is a dead link. Thanks--115.98.178.125 (talk) 13:47, 14 February 2022 (UTC)
Hi @Itcouldbepossible: could you please revert the last edit. The last user changed the GDP data in the Infobox despite providing the source. Also brother if possible try to update these two GDP list List of Indian states and union territories by GDP and List of Indian states and union territories by GDP per capita. I guess most editors are mistakenly taking old GDP data from the list and then putting them in the individual state articles. Thanks--115.98.103.105 (talk) 03:55, 15 February 2022 (UTC)
