Used car[edit]

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passenger_vehicles_in_the_United_States, total new vehicles sold in the US in 2006 were only 7.7 million, not the 77 million cited in this article. ````

Hey i typed in used cars it should give me the movie i think not this article. thanks.

Note: this really shouldn't be the main article, "Used car" should be, as it is the main term people actually use. I'm too lazy to fix this now, though. --Xyzzyplugh 02:28, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I'm new to this. How do we go about changing it back to "Used car"? --TheRollingRock 18:38, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

When I think of "used cars", my first thought is not about some B-movie but about actual real-world pre-owned vehicles. Weren't used motor vehicles around for a lot longer than the film? I'm just sayin'. Cramyourspam (talk) 04:34, 22 December 2009 (UTC)CramYourSpam.[reply]

This page should be about Used Cars and not as a way to advertise for companies such as AutoNation and CarMax.

Statistics about the largest volume of sales by companies in the industry is not advertising - it is factual information.

Could someone please provide the link to the JD Powers List article. I can not locate this anywhere on the web and would like to confirm this or have it removed. (4/23/07) TheBigTruth2007 13:05, 23 April 2007 (UTC) TheBigTruth[reply]

Article indicates Autotrader.com offers free vehicle history reports, however all I've been able to find is a teaser that shows you how many records there are for a car, but not the details of those records. I'm removing this section. If this is incorrect, please re-add with citation.

Que?[edit]

What on earth is "though facilities in new car dealers are typically the newest." supposed to mean? -Etafly 04:33, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I made many edits such that information is verifiable with footnotes where available. I also made many entries to help this article help define the used car marketplace around the world, not just in the United States. However, I did not remove the warning messages about either topic and they still appear at the start of the article. I am not familiar enough with the rules on removing those messages.Autowick (talk) 11:51, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As long as you address the tags, as you seem to have done, you can take the tags down. Thanks for your effort. Carl.bunderson (talk) 22:44, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Total Rewrite[edit]

This article reads as a guide to buying used cars and not an encyclopedia article. It violates WP:NOTGUIDE all the way. It should almost be deleted if it can't be greatly repaired. ASPENSTITALKCONTRIBUTIONS 03:58, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of a "used vehicle"[edit]

Not arguing with the current wording, but for comparison here are some of the ways "used vehicle" is defined by law:

CALIFORNIA CODES VEHICLE CODE SECTION 665 665. A "used vehicle" is a vehicle that has been sold, or has been registered with the department, or has been sold and operated upon the highways, or has been registered with the appropriate agency of authority, of any other state, District of Columbia, territory or possession of the United States or foreign state, province or country, or unregistered vehicles regularly used or operated as demonstrators in the sales work of a dealer or unregistered vehicles regularly used or operated by a manufacturer in the sales or distribution work of such manufacturer. The word "sold" does not include or extend to: (1) any sale made by a manufacturer or a distributor to a dealer, (2) any sale by a new motor vehicle dealer franchised to sell a particular line-make to another new motor vehicle dealer franchised to sell the same line-make, or (3) any sale by a dealer to another dealer licensed under this code involving a mobilehome, as defined in Section 396, a recreational vehicle, as defined in Section 18010.5 of the Health and Safety Code, a commercial coach, as defined in Section 18012 of the Health and Safety Code, an off-highway motor vehicle subject to identification, as defined in Section 38012, or a commercial vehicle, as defined in Section 260.

Michigan a new motor vehicle is one "which is not and has not been a demonstrator, executive or manufacturer's vehicle, leased vehicle, or a used or second-hand vehicle."

Delaware (79) "Used vehicle" includes every motor vehicle or OHV which has been sold, bargained, exchanged, given away or title transferred from the person who first acquired it from the manufacturer or importer, dealer or agent of the manufacturer or importer and so used as to have become what is commonly known as "secondhand" within the ordinary meaning thereof.

Maybe some of these definitions can be incorporated. Shadowjams (talk) 23:01, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
