Fight song?

I think we need to be less concerned with things like that, and more concerned with expanding actual information on the school.

Possible Copyright infringement

Much of this page appears to be taken verbatum from http://www.ucok.edu/about_uco.htm - like the entire History section. Also, the sports section reads a bit like a PR release. steventity 04:51, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

factual error

UCO, is not the oldest higher education institution in oklahoma, it was founded at the same time as both the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. All of the schools are still not as old as Northeastern State University which was founded almost forty years earlier as the Cherokee National Female Seminary, or Bacone College which was founded in 1880. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.177.102.146 (talk) 09:34, 2 February 2007 (UTC).

NSU, despite its advertising, is not the same institution as the Cherokee Nation Female Seminary. The campus was purchased from the Cherokees, after statehood, and a new teachers' college was established in it, and it is this teachers' college that is now NSU. So, Female Seminary was in fact an older school, as was Cherokee Nation Male Seminary, but they neither one are still in operation. Bacone College and St. Gregory's University are the oldest colleges in the state, but both are church-run schools, rather than state schools. --Aaron Walden 21:14, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Notable Alumni

A "Mark A. Barton" was added as a notable alumni, their is no deeper information on wikipedia on him, also I looked for information on him on the internet and did not find anything that would make him more notable than other solders. Second oldest university

Just chiming in here... A secondary source is usually more neutral in these cases than a primary source; in this case, we have a primary source (UCO's website) claiming the school is the oldest in Oklahoma and a highly reliable secondary source (The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education) giving that distinction to NSU. NSU may have become state funded at a later date than UCO, but this is not the claim being sourced—the claim is that UCO is the oldest "institution of higher education" in Oklahoma. However, we could use better sources. They clearly support NSU being the oldest institution, but do not mention UCO. Okiefromokla questions? 04:30, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

UCO oldest

The phrasing "claims to be the oldest" makes it sound like there is no basis or truth behind what is said. It was the established with at the same time as OU and OSU but was the first to hold classes under the authority of the state, unlike NSU which was not an oklahoma school of higher education (under authority of the state) until the early 1900s. I feel since the dispute is this in depth that the claim should be removed from the wikipedia page and just put the founding date rather than the claim that it is the oldest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Houstonman6 (talk • contribs) 19:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

University of Central Oklahoma Hockey Club

I think the hockey club article should be merged into this article just like the Rugby club one is. I think the scope of the article is to small for it to exist separately. Also, since I'm new to this, should I place a template of some sort on the article creator's talk page? Thanks. Shashwat986 (talk) 06:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Forensic Science Institute

I noticed there is no mention of the new Forensic Science Institute and the academic program they have created and the new building they opened up in January. I'm going to begin working on creating a section for it, which eventually should be it's own page much like the school of business or music etc. I added the 2 degrees and the building to their associated lists.Grimmy999 (talk) 03:38, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Forbes rating?

The section "University Rankings" links to rating of 632 in the Forbes University rankings [1]. When I went to Forbes, I couldn't find any ranking for UCO, and number 632 is Warren Wilson College. Perhaps the ranking is from a previous year, and UCO has been dropped by Forbes? I'm not very familiar with the etiquette of wikipedia, so I don't want to change the article.
