Proposed improvements.

Hello! As noted on my profile, my name is Barbara and I work for UnitedHealth Group. I'm here on Wikipedia to submit edit requests and suggest improvements to articles related to the company. I'll use "Talk" pages for assistance and editor discussion.

Source for [citation needed] tag

  • Issue: [citation needed] in 1st paragraph of History
  • Request: Add citation for the text "United HealthCare's charter was to manage the newly created Physicians Health Plan of Minnesota, an early Health maintenance organization (HMO)"
  • Source: Star Tribune ("At the Hennepin County Medical Society, physicians approached Ellwood for help developing their own HMO. He connected them with a researcher at InterStudy named Richard Burke, who helped launch the non-profit Physicians Health Plan. Burke's company Charter Med, which provided management services to the HMO, eventually became UnitedHealth Group.")

If this source is appropriate, can someone add a citation to address the [citation needed] tag?

@Spencer: Thank you for reviewing and updating the article. Below, I've submitted a request to correct some categories, if you have another moment to take a look. Barbara at UHG (talk) 18:16, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Fixing incorrect categories

  • Issue: Incorrect categories
  • Request: Fix wrong category "1990 initial public offerings"
  • Source: The company went public in 1984, per Yahoo Finance ("UnitedHealthcare was founded in 1977. It went public in 1984. The company was named UnitedHealth Group in 1998. UnitedHealth Group achieved its first significant success in 1997. The AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) selected the company to provide coverage for its members.")
  • Request: Remove misleading categories "Financial services companies established in 1977" (unless health insurance is considered financial services?) and "Pharmacy benefit management companies based in the United States"

I'm asking editors to consider updating the categories appropriately. Thanks! Barbara at UHG (talk) 22:03, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Partly done I added the info about when the company went public in the text with the provided reference, and updated the category accordingly. I have not removed the other categories. The text of the article describes UHG's subsidiaries Optum (and Optum Bank) that offer financial services (including HSAs) and PBM services. SpencerT•C 04:57, 1 March 2023 (UTC)
