How should the track be?[edit]

The JMA is still issuing warnings of STS Ma-on, but the JTWC has issued the final warning. How should the track be?--I am a horny pussycat.Meow 16:00, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The track map goes by the JMA, IIRC. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:14, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What will the rest of the track show? Low? TD? TS? Or Unknown? --I am a horny pussycat.Meow 16:58, 22 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
For now the rest of the track will show Ma-on as a disturbance since that is what the Running Best Track is showing, however i do not mind if someone wanted to take the points from the JMA BT which is due out by Mid September or the JMA operating track if it is smooth enough.Jason Rees (talk) 18:42, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • "On July 19, the typhoon struck Shikoku before turning" and "At around 1400 UTC on July 19, Ma-on made landfall on Shikoku as a minimal typhoon." - Any specific city/town/village where Ma-on made landfall?
    • Nah, there's a bit of discrepancy between JTWC and JMA, so I wouldn't want to go more exact than that. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:05, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "1-minute sustained winds of 135 mph (220 km/h)." - Why is this American unit first? Throughout the rest of the article, you have it vice versa, i.e.: "x km/h (x mph)".
  • "The storm became extratropical on July 24 to the east of Hokkaido," - To me, it looks like Ma-on became extratropical while south-southeast of Honshu? Even if this is correct, it would probably be better to say "The storm became extratropical on July 24 near the Kuril Islands", since Ma-on was closer to those islands than Hokkaido.
  • Is there any Japanese sources for impact from Ma-on? If not, I will let this article pass without it.
    • I looked, but the Digital Typhoon/JMA reports aren't out yet. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:05, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • The JMA BT is out.
        • The BT doesn't have any impact, so it's not helpful. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:04, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "38.5 in (860 mm) in Umaji, Kōchi, which set a 24 hour rainfall record and exceeded the average July precipitation by 10.6 in (265.5 mm)." - In this quotation, I see once again that the American units are used first, when it should actually be metric then American. So it would be 860 mm (38.5 in) and 265.5 mm (10.6 in).
  • "Throughout the month, heat stroke deaths were 70% less than in 2010." - Were there 70% less heat strokes compared with the whole year of 2010? Or was it in comparison with just July 2010?
  • Wikilink the "Joint Typhoon Warning Center" and the "United States Navy" on Reference #1
  • On Reference #4, Wikilink the "Japan Meteorological Agency"
  • The date for Reference #11 should be February 6, 2012, not 2012-02-06
  • Reference #29 is a deadlink
    • I removed the URL since I couldn't find a replacement. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:05, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • On all Reference #29 and later, there is date inconsistency with the other references. For example, on Reference #1 the date is July 9, 2011, but on Reference #33 the date is 2011-07-18. Please fix this problem either way, but do not use both date formats.
    • Got it. As for ref 33, it's because there is a listed author. A lot of the other ones don't have one. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:05, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
      • No that doesnt affect it - it is just the way you have written the date.Jason Rees (talk) 15:21, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • One more thing. On Reference #5, I think you forgot to add the archive date, because there is red text denoting an error with the archive url.--12george1 (talk) 16:49, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Apparently you fixed my final issue. Therefore, I am going to pass this article for GA.--12george1 (talk) 20:51, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
