"Reads Like an Essay"[edit]

I wouldn't even go so far as to say that the section marked "review" reads like an essay. It needs more than clean-up—it needs, in my opinion, to be totally scrapped and begun anew. The section is poorly written, consists of one unacceptably long and topically diffuse paragraph, and (to the extent that it does engage in proving its original author's own interpretation of the film) deviates substantially from the generic expectations of encyclopedia entries.

Moreover, I'm not sure that a "review" section falls within the purview of a Wikipedia entry--see the policies on original research and neutral point of view. Does anybody else have any thoughts on deleting this section? I definitely don't want to do so unilaterally, without some sort of consensus. Job L 09:36, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree. Wikipedia is clearly not a place for movie reviews.

Well the replacement of it makes the plot look anaemic. I've had to scroll back to the history to get the gist of what happened in the movie. As it stands, the plot is thin and needs to have the additions of the previous deleted stuff. Apart from opinions in the review that was deleted, it had important plot elements that should have NOT been deleted. Eg Agrin is a 15 year old who was raped, the 3 year old is her son. Well even after watching the movie, I didn't see the connection until reading the deleted review. Those who delete too much have destroyed this entry. Fix it.

Persian language?[edit]

The dialogues of the film were in Kurdish, but because of restrictions in Iran, the director had to choose a Persian Title, otherwise it would not have got permission from authorities. Anyway I have added the Kurdish title. The previous title was simply the transliteration of the Persian Title.Heja Helweda 02:23, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

what you are saying is non-sense. in iran there are films with any title any language. dont say something that you are not sure of.

The language of the film is kurmanci, the titles i do not know i do not read arabic or farsi, she may mean the title of the film.

the boys name is not KAK (i think that is a kind of title a person of prestige holds)but it is SORAN, at least this is how he introduces himself to Agrine when she asks for some cable for her son(little"brother") in the beginning of the movie when all are turning their tv antennas.In Iran kurds are being prosecuted as they are in turkey, syria and were in Irak. this might also be what heja was meaing. In Iran there currently processes of "arabification" underway or at least were last year according to human rights watch.

Background information[edit]

From my point of view at the far end of the world, this may just be the most profoundly strange film I've ever encountered. Children competing to collect land mines to trade for machine gun rentals, kerosene for toothaches, a 13-year-old apparently running the community, trusted to translate the news everyone relies on, people living in tanks(?) ... all very strange indeed. What is not clear to those most foreign of us in the audience is how implausible these situations seem in Iraq/Iran/Kurdistan. Because the audience of this Wikipedia is mostly as foreign as I am, I hope that those editing this article will resist the general drive to trim down plotlines, but instead give as much insight as possible into the various situations depicted. P.S. Is it possible for films from Iraq or Iran win an Oscar? Wnt (talk) 08:01, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
