Origin of name[edit]

Does the name "Tortoise" come from the Echo & the Bunnymen song "Seven Seas?" I ask because the line "the taut and tame"--which happens to be a Tortoise track--appears in that song. --76.168.8.59 09:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If I were to remove all unfounded claims (most of which qualify as hype and/or overreach) from this article, its length would drop by at least 50%.
