Dunc Munro[edit]

I would be interested in finding out a little more on Munro's VB experience; not listed in his wiki article, nor Dave Trottier; however, LB Pearson was noted in article as alumnus of VB hockey.....and what about Mike Keenen, Tom Watt, etc.... Bacl-presby 19:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Splitting content[edit]

Varsity Blues → Toronto Varsity Blues – All other CIS (and NCAA) teams are the name of the university and team name. For example Saskatchewan Huskies or Gonzaga Bulldogs, no reason that the U of T should be different. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 23:30, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Only reason I can see against it is that they are never called Toronto Varsity Blues as far as I have heard (though I am sure you could find google hits). They are always just the Varsity Blues. So technically commonname could play a part in this. I don't have a strong opinion on it but thought I would mention that. -DJSasso (talk) 19:24, 22 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If we want to get into commonname, I've always seen them noted as U of T Varsity Blues, but I've never been a fan of abbreviating the school name like that. It seems like common practice amongst University sports teams is to drop the University of from the name and simply refer to them as the place name nickname, as doing that would mean most of Canada West would need to be renamed along that format. Quite honestly, when I hear strictly Varsity Blues, my mind automatically goes to the movie with James Van Der Beek from Dawson's Creek. The Google hits for "Toronto Varsity Blues" comes back with 204,000 hits. So it does appear to be used quite a bit. Plus, I do think if we followed commonname to the T, you'd have the Montreal Canadiens as The Habs, the Saskatchewan Roughriders as The Riders etc. etc. Shootmaster 44 (talk) 02:43, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, for both those examples you will find Montreal Canadiens and Saskatchewan Roughriders used far more commonly in reliable sources than those nicknames.
