Tom York, WBRC-TV, Birmingham, is not the Tom York, singer, who is subject of a different Wikipedia page. WBRC-TV personality "Tom York" worked for Joe Van Sandt, WJOI, Florence, Alabama in 1955 and studied at Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama). At the time, Judd Phillips, Sam Phillips' brother, worked along side York in station middle management. Paul Shannon was Chief Engineer. In 1955, WJOI was co-owned by the Anderson family, founders of Books a Million (BAM) and other publishing/distribution companies in Birmingham, Knoxville, and Florence.
