I am deleting the snippets of text referenced above, which are clearly copied from http://www.sadgeezer.com/lexx/thodin.htm, the text which is in italics. Thanks, -Willmcw 21:15, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)

why not just put a link to the surce anbd write " copied from" on it? wouldnt that be a mite easier?

Gabrielsimon 23:34, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Well in this case the stuff he keeps deleting is not a direct copy, it is a paraphrase. Also articles that are direct copies and then just in quotes get speedy deleted. Thodin 23:38, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Gabriel, how in the world is this not plagiarism? You can't just take a source, change a few words, and paste it into a Wikipedia article. I'm not going to revert but I'm a bit puzzled that you'd say it's not plagiarism. Seems like the very definition of plagiarism to me. Rhobite 02:05, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

its not phlagarized becase theyt flying snotthings not ther and sevceral other things arent close to the samew. Gabrielsimon 02:30, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

A common misconception is that if you change some text around a little, it is no longer plagiarism. As I said, that's a misconception. Rhobite 02:42, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

Revised draft[edit]

Character details
Thodin has been captured and brought to the Cluster for trial, a mockery of justice in front of many thousands of people in the Clusters Stadium. He would be found guilty and fed to Cluster Lizards, gigantic rolling lizards, as punishment for crimes such as piracy and murder.
Thodin was not ruffled by this as he has a number of gadgets to aid him on his exploits. These include a bug bomb hidden in his nostril, and an eyeball that when extracted from the socket can be used as a small bomb, making the owner invisible. He used this to great effect just before he is killed in a battle with Kai. He sacrificed his life in this battle, but prior to that, he gave the Key to the Lexx to a subbordinate, who in turn was eaten by a cluster lizard, at which point the Key to the Lexx left him and went to Stanley Tweedle, who now captains the mighty vessel.
The writers developed Thodin as a fearless warrior, but through their sense of humour, this leader of leaders is forced to wear a short glittery pink skirt and thigh-length boots. The character, however, was heterosexual.

While this is still a re-write from a single source, which equals plagiarism, with further contributions by those who know about the topic it can grow into an original article. What additional info can we add or correct in the above text? -Willmcw 06:24, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

I've seen a lot of articles that are exact plagarism, but have no references. I think you should put it up. Thodin 18:28, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
That's not a justification for this article's plagiarism, is it? Do you think Wikipedia should be allowed to copy any content it wants, without permission? Rhobite 18:42, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)
I think that if we keep working on this draft it won't be plagiarism. Has anyone here ever seen this TV show? -Willmcw 19:42, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

i own it. Gabrielsimon 23:27, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Meaning what? -Willmcw 00:03, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

meaning since i can watch the film in question repeatedly and such, i can be considered an expert on thodin. (oh, and i do add correc wording, the " flying snot" menitoned in an earlier edit called itself a bug bomb, so i changed it to that., as an example. Gabrielsimon 07:35, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Oh yeah, got it. Cool. Add what you can. In the meanitime, I'll post this version on the page so we can use it as the base. Thanks, -Willmcw 07:52, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Real Revised version[edit]

Here is the revised text I meant to post above:

  • Thodin is armed with many special gadgets, including exploding nasal bugs, and a false eyeball that explodes and makes him invisible. These tools came in handy during his adventures.
  • He underwent a rigged trial at the Cluster Stadium, but escaped. He sacrificed his life in this battle, but prior to that, he gave the Key to the Lexx to a subbordinate, who in turn was eaten by a cluster lizard, at which point the Key to the Lexx left him and went to Stanley Tweedle, who now captains the mighty vessel.
  • The character wears a short pink skirt and high boots. The character, however, was heterosexual.

This is the revised version I meant to post before, which I wrote myself, using the one source. Sorry if my mind glazes over on this stuff. Anyway, I'm gonna post this again on the page, adding in the amendments made by editors from the copied material, and then we can move forward. The version I copied by mistake above is the bad, copyvio version, which I somehow didn't notice. My apologies. My aim is the same: let's start with a fresh writing and work up from there. -Willmcw 08:00, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

I think your rewritten text is good, let's go with that. This is a pretty minor topic to have a plagiarism dispute about, but it still disappoints me that some people do not respect academic honesty. Thanks for stepping in and rewriting it. Rhobite 17:12, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)

Irony[edit]

Not to be too pedantic, but why are his last words ("Today... I... Thodin...") described as ironic? 70.20.135.211 (talk) 05:50, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No idea. I've removed it. ·:· Will Beback ·:· 07:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
