Templates[edit]

Today templates for {{context}} and {{update}} were added to the article. Not sure what is lacking for context, the current first sentences: "Thevar Jayanthi (Tamil: தேவர் செயந்தி), celebrated on 30 October, is an annual commemoration of the birthday of the Indian freedom fighter and politician Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar. It is celebrated in a grand way by the Thevar community in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu.[1] Although not an official public holiday, many schools and businesses in the area remain closed on the day", summarizes the article well and provides the necessary context. And for update, what is new that needs to be added to article? --Soman (talk) 04:10, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Check the guidelines for {{context}} template thoroughly, it needs a good introductory article. Here the lead scetion carries only an info to readers. But the pros and cons should be weighed at lead section of the article. Thus neutrality can be maintained (Ref:WP:NPOV). Regarding {{update}}, cross check the guidelines, as it is mentioned only about what happened in 2007 only, not the past or the present. Hence more valid and unbiased information is required. Also is it ஜெயந்தி or செயந்தி? I'm confused about that tamil language script spelling. --Balablitz (talk) 18:52, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So, what actually is the problematic part here as per context? Your response provides no answers. The current lede specifies that Thevar Jayanthi is 1) an annual recurring event, 2) that it is celebrated on October 30, 3) that it is celebrated in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar, 4) which community celebrates it and 5) the legal status of the event as public holiday or not. What would be lacking in order to make the lede more understandable? ({{context}} is not to be used for POV issues, which is what you are implying).
As per {{update}} it is not so strange that the centenary attracted more attention than other years. We don't need to have a section on 2008 celebration, 2009 celebration, etc.. --Soman (talk) 00:11, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it annual commemoration/recurring event or just an centenary celebration? Please clear. If annual commemoration/recurring event, then add relevant happenings in the subsequent years. If article highlights only centenary celebration, then the title of the article should be renamed/moved as "Thevar Centenary Celebration". The section, Thevar's Legacy seems to be unnecessary here. It can moved to U. Muthuramalingam Thevar's page itself. Stick with the theme of the article. Except the WP:DYK fact, rest of the article needs WP:COPYEDIT. --Balablitz (talk) 11:26, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is an annual commemoration/recurring event, which is clearly stated in the lede. Most of the article does not relate to the centenary. As per the 'legacy' passage, it explains the religious importance attached to the be. Again, I'm confused by the notion that the article would be confusing or subjective. --Soman (talk) 14:01, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Helping to resolve this[edit]

Is there any way that I can help?

I suggest that the "Promoting in a Subjective Way" flag might be addressed by changing the phrase "freedom fighter" for something more neutral... Is this the problem, Balablitz? ("One person's terrorist is the other person's freedom fighter," I think that's the saying...).

Balablitz, please be very explicit why you think the "Promoting in a Subjective Way" flag is appropriate. This needs to be remedied so the flag can be removed.

I think a short discussion of the life and ideas of U. Muthuramalingam Thevar would also be helpful. The significance of the festival strikes me as a little unclear. Carrite (talk) 17:38, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
In Indian context, the title 'freedom fighter' has official status (with entitlements like pensions etc.). --Soman (talk) 01:25, 17 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
