Merge from The Swan (short story by Roald Dahl)[edit]

The article I am suggesting the merge from seems to have originated as a school book report but contains a substantially greater plot summary than here ~~and also references~~(the references were poor and are no longer present). It's relatively simple to merge in, but it is worth looking at consensus building prior to anyone simply being bold and merging anyway. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 09:07, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that there now are two articles on this short story. I believe this article takes precedence over the other (The Swan (short story by Roald Dahl), but both should be looked at before a decision is made whether to merge into the larger article. I have just undone a load of edits, including yours, in the article. It looks as though an editor involved in the article I think might be merged in to this article came and made some inexperienced edits which were then reverted in part and built upon. Part ofd this involved blanking this section and replacing it, attempting to merge. Boldness is fine, but the section is flagged clearly for discussion. I have also unravelled a load of stuff. There were three articles on The Sawn. It looks like this was a school project and several folk started the same article. I have redirected two of them to what looks like the most comprehensive, and then corrected the merge template to merge to this article and bring the discussion here. We can discuss it in all its aspects here. I've also had a very preliminary go at cleaning up the source article. It doesn't matter much which of the three articles survives or which is merged. support I feel that the merge should take place and the opportunity taken to edit the material substantially when merging in. The source article is very much like a school book report and the merge is a great opportunity to do this. My rationale for merging is that this short story is a part of a volume of six short stories, and thus should not be separated from the others. The resulting article will be longer, but not overlong. Henry Sugar[edit]

As I recall the story as Dahl gives it, there are two alternate endings, one in which Sugar gives into greed and dies almost immediately of a blood clot in the brain, the other in which he avoids his greedy impulses and only dies years later. My memory of The Swan involves Peter actually creating a costume that helps save his life, or something, but I will have to see if I can find my family’s copy and confirm which versions are accurate.
