Unreliable sources tag[edit]

- @Serial Number 54129: That is true about discogs.com, but I'm almost certain AllMusic is written by professional writers (readers cannot edit the articles, for example). Would it not be better to perhaps tag the article with improveref rather than unreliableref?Nqr9 (talk) 15:43, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

- I don't have a particular beef either way; but I suggest the focus (or, both your foci is a better way of putting it) should be on improving the article to the extent that tags of any colour are redundant. I don't think you can (well, you can, but I disagree with it) use blanket claims like "discogs is unreliable". Sure, it's not a reliable source if, say, you were going to cite it for record sales or chart positions or something (which is not the purpose of the site and this sort of info could only be displayed in comments posted there, anyway). But surely it is "reliable" in the sense of showing that a commercially-released album exists, which is how the source has been used in this article. You could, for example, look up those albums on eBay (which of course I'm not going to cite) to see that those albums are listed for sale from multiple sellers, so odds are greater that they exist than they are some figment of a vandal's imagination. Yes, AllMusic no doubt contains some unreliable information about artist worldwide sales etc., but again, that is not how it has been used in this article; rather, it has been used as a source for the names of the band members. A user-generated site in itself is not necessarily an unreliable source, though the content contained on it certainly can be, depending on whether the information it contains is accurate and how it is used.Nqr9 (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
