False Ending[edit]

Saw this yesterday on Spike channel and I seem to recall that after Kirk and Spock destroyed Landru, they blithely said that the Betans would be able to handle their violation of the Federation Prime Directive without further interference, they, as it were, having revived the "Body". This episode is regularly available so shouldn't be hard to verify. Lycurgus (talk) 15:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Memory Alpha concurs that crew were left behind, different from current text, but close enough. Lycurgus (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Festival[edit]

"The only time the people "let loose" and become a violent mob, is at the coming of "The Red Hour", a festival which seems to be the only time Landru doesn't have control over them."

I suggest that this be explained or deleted. It's not clear from the plot what the function of the festival really is. That's unfortunate, since it would probably fill in some other blanks about details later in the story. Still, from the reaction that Reger and his companions show towards the Enterprise crew's not attending the festival, it seems clear that Landru expects them to (or at least young people are expected to attend). It's hard to see why Landru would punish those who don't attend the festival, if in fact it was mostly a way for everyone to get away from him. C d h (talk) 16:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, we can't really expand the explanation here, as it isn't explained any better in the episode itself. Unless a source can be found that further expands on it (an earlier draft of the script or story treatment that gives further details), any attempt to explain it would be original research. -- Hawaiian717 (talk) 17:12, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia §[edit]

Suggest: rename "Episode Notable Features"; link the historical Landru as a footnote; add Notes § 74.78.162.229 (talk) 16:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reference to Archons, used in the episode to identify the original Starfleet ship that visited the planet, and the association with the establishment of a global, mind-controlling religion, paralleles with the Gnostic Archons (source of the word) who are responsible for the confusion among in human thinking regarding its origins, nature, and relationship to the larger universe. Archons are invisible, alien, controlling entities who confuse and hypnotize and enslave mankind for their own purposes and without human awareness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.163.106.72 (talk) 20:20, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Materialization Complete ?[edit]

After Kirk et al beam down, Kirk tells the Enterprise, via communicator, "Materialization complete. Kirk out." That's the first and only time that I've seen anyone do that after beaming down. Any input - why did they do this on this episode and not others (or I could be mistaken and just never noticed it any other time that they may have done it)? Thanks! "SCPIPT SUPERVISOR"[edit]

...reads one of the end credits (at 50:13 of the NetFlix "Watch Instantly" release). Was this typo added as part of the remastering, or was it in the original release, too?--NapoliRoma (talk) 04:29, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zack Handlen? Who?[edit]

What makes the A.V. Club the authority on "grading" Star Trek episodes? 63.239.80.250 (talk) 03:45, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The AV Club is a reliable source, any additional information it can provide about the article subject is welcome. WikiuserNI (talk) 23:17, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't really think it is a "source" for anything but one person's opinion. Therefore, not very useful. I think the Trek articles could do without them and am glad to see that editors are removing them. imho :) Sir Rhosis (talk) 03:15, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Landru Reactivated[edit]

A later paperback series, Star Trek: S.C.E - Foundations (Dilmore / Ward), contains a flashback story about Landru being reactivated and how Scotty solves the problem. Would that be appropriate to mention here (vis-á-vis the Landru connection)? JimScott (talk) 14:52, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Charles Macaulay[edit]

missing link. There maybe some subtext, because it seems possible he may have been gay. Note: I do not care. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:6:1780:DE6:C00E:BAA1:6EB5:2C8E (talk) 06:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sid Haig[edit]

Sid Haig's role is not uncredited. He's listed in the closing credits right after Brioni Farrell. (Just watched dvd) 2600:8801:BE00:8CC:F447:8EE1:3236:DC8E (talk) 19:49, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
