Plot[edit]

I vaguely remember it as a book and movie back in the 70's. I think I saw it on a late movie once. Not very good, as I recall, but a minor hit at the time. Fan-1967 04:25, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History of the book's publication[edit]

I think the book's history begins with its publication in hardcover form by Double Day in 1973, in paperback form by Bantam in 1974, followed by printings in 1975 and 1978. With regards to the date of its initial publication in 1973, the book was considered a "hot property" and immediately dramatized in movie form in 1975.

Does anybody know who holds the current rights to the story? Is it the author's daughter, Zoe Ehrlich? As to the rights to the 1975 movie, those appear to have originated with, and therefore may remain in, Charles A. Pratt, executive producer, and Frank P. About four or five years later, Max Ehrlich managed to put together a literary sequel, "Reincarnation in Venice" (cf. Thomas Mann's Death in Venice), published in paperback form through Ace Books. To the best of my knowledge, this sequel - playing upon belief in transcendental meditation, for whatever reason repeating the same kind of theme where life and death repeat themselves, as happened in the earlier book - has not yet been dramatized in cinematic form. 198.177.27.13 23:29, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

1973 Doubleday (publisher) --not Double Day-- publication needs a source. I doubt it. Late 1974 Bobbs-Merrill publication appears likely to me after poking around.
