Multiracial casting[edit]

Previous films of David Copperfield have been all white. But in this movie David is played by a South Asian actor, and another character by an East Asian actor.

Isn't that notable? I'd love to know more about the casting decisions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.78.225.197 (talk) 03:57, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds interesting. See if you can find a source that is discussing it! BOVINEBOY2008 12:16, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Here are some sources: [1], [2], [3]. Thanks, Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:16, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Quite simply, they decided to cast without regard to race, but on the basis of talent. (It's a production style seen more and more now. After all, art is about imagination, being open to possibility, seeking new ways to express things—so why be hung up about diversity?)
However, to comment in the article on this casting transparency would, IMHO, make it an issue, where the object was for it not to be an issue. So editorially, I believe there's more value in leaving it unmentioned, giving viewers a chance to appreciate the performances and exercise their democratic sensibilities. – AndyFielding (talk) 12:52, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
