GA Review[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

I will be reviewing this article. This will be my first GA review, so if other reviewers have any comments about my review and how I may improve, please let me know. --Jameboy (talk) 16:07, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for doing the GA review. When I review other articles, I look at WP:WIAGA, and when constructing the GA review itself sometimes I like to use the {{PGAN}}-style templates to formulate my thoughts. Thanks again, Cirt (talk) 16:59, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

I have placed this GA nomination on hold, pending resolution of some issues/questions.

  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose quality:
Minor spelling and grammar issues fixed. A few issues: 1) Can we start the second sentence of the lead something like "In the episode,...", to make it clear that we are now talking about the fictional world rather than real life? For example it could be: "In the episode, Edna Krabappel calls an emergency strike on behalf of the Teachers' Union of Springfield Elementary, to protest against Principal Skinner's miserly school spending, following a failed attempt at a school field trip." 2) "Due to her excessive mothering" - is "her" Marge or Lisa? 3) "it is clear from the last line" → "it is clear from the last line spoken in the episode"(?) Why is it clear - how do you know what Bart is thinking? What is the line? Is it explained in the DVD commentary? Could do with a cite. 4) The Simpsons is written by more than one person, so shouldn't it be "writers' room" rather than "writer's room"?
    B. MoS compliance:
Lead looks OK (could possibly merge the second and third paragraphs but it would be OK either way) and has an infobox. Layout/sections all present and correct. No unexplained jargon, but "mom" and "kid" are a bit informal - I would replace with "his mother" and "Much of the episode is based on David Mirkin's childhood experiences of schools running out of money." respectively. Per the 10th bullet point at WP:INUNIVERSE, the image captions for the stills should include "scene" or "still". Can't find any words to avoid and no embedded lists.
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. References to sources:
Generally well-referenced. Some questions on the content: 1) How exactly did Skinner's miserly spending cause the school trip to fail? 2) In the thesimpsons.com episode guide for this episode, it mentions the possibility of "highly intelligent robots teaching classes" and also mentions Ned Flanders taking over as Principal. Are these two things worth mentioning in the article? 3) Is Edna "Ms. Krabappel"? Her bio at thesimpsons.com refers to her as "Mrs. Krabappel" 4) In the references section, could we mention that the "I Can't Believe It's a Bigger and Better Updated Unofficial Simpsons Guide" info is hosted by the BBC? (per Wikipedia:CITE#SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT)
    B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
All quotes and info on living persons has been cited, however the "last line" bit could do with a citation, per 1b above.
    C. No original research:
No original research that I can see. The Plot section is purely an episode synopsis for which a DVD commentary exists.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. Major aspects:
    B. Focused:
  4. Is it neutral?
    Fair representation without bias:
Seems OK. Quick question, are there any negative reviews or particular criticisms of this episode anywhere?
  5. Is it stable?
    No edit wars, etc:
Checked the edit history: no evidence of edit wars or other instability
  6. Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
    A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
All seems in order. Two fair use images are low-res and include fair use rationales and licensing info. The other image is a free Commons image from Flickr
    B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
As mentioned, the image caption for the Mirkin image could do with being amended as per 1b ("kid"), and the stills images need to be marked as such, also per 1b. Don't think the 200px parameter is needed for the Jasper image as it is already a "thumb".
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
On hold, pending resolution of a few issues.

Response to above GA review

I went through the above recommendations point-by-point and made changes to the article in response to these suggestions, noting as such in the edit summaries. In response to point 2a, the funding issues caused problems with the school bus, and admission, but this is a small part of the episode and no further plot detail is necessary here to provide context for the secondary source analysis which follows. Edna is "Ms. Krabappel", it appears the bio at that website is incorrect. Other than that - I believe I have responded to and corrected each of the points above. GA Pass

All of the points above have now been addressed. This is now a good article. --Jameboy (talk) 13:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
