Hyphen in Title[edit]

Analysis Section[edit]

Do think this is valid? I find it appropriate, particularly when observing this passage: "I'd rather be like I am...than have the whip-hand over somebody else and be dead from the toe nails up. Maybe as soon as you get the whip-hand over somebody you do go dead. By God, to say that last sentence has needed a few hundred miles of long-distance running," (pg. 14, Alfred A. Knopf 5th edition 1970). I agree. The "Historical Context" section is very weak. The pure economic (Marxist maybe) analysis of the motivations of the Angry Young Men does not belong here. I agree with the writer above. This section is utterly amateurish rubbish. It is very badly written, poorly argued or explained, subjective and biased, lacking proper referencing, and naive and lacking any sophistication in style or content whatsoever. Well, after some ten years of nothing happening I've decided to take an axe to most of the material, as argued for here and in another section below. I would have preferred to delete all these bits wholesale, but in the interest of representing the "research" this was based on I've left a skeletal core that sums up the ideas of the articles as presented here originally, while removing anything outright unsupported or of only tangible relevance. Poem[edit]

I think, though I am not certain (can anyone verify?) that the film uses the poem 'The Song of the Ungirt Runners' by Charles Hamilton Sorley. If it is the film I'm thinking of then there should probably be a link to Sorley.

Musical Adaptations section[edit]

"Long Distance Runner" means anyone who runs long distances. This phrase alone does not relate to the story. If the two songs mentioned with this title are indeed adaptations of the story, we need some kind of reference to establish that. Historical Context[edit]
