Use of a blog as a source[edit]

In this edit, User:Dmgerman claims the right to use a blog as a source. Since the blog is called 'dmg' we assume it's his own. This is clearly not acceptable as a source under WP:V. (I could post anything in my own blog, then cite my blog in a Wikipedia article). If the information came from Michael Geist's weblog, then we might have a discussion, because he is a noted expert on copyright who has regular publications. If the information came from Geist, then we need a citation to Geist. EdJohnston (talk) 02:03, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

French Canada[edit]

Merger proposal[edit]

User:Wafulz has suggested that Hockey Scores be merged here. With respect, I disagree - both articles are about separate songs that have received significant coverage in their own right, and the two are not intrinsically linked. If we're going to merge that article, I'd suggest merging it to an article about CBC's contest to replace this song (to which Hockey Scores is intrinsically linked, since all of its coverage has been in the context of that contest) rather than to this one. Toth or Cable?[edit]

This article claims the main version was scored by Toth. However, the Howard Cable article claims its his version. Any good references for either/both? Maury Markowitz (talk) 12:44, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jerry Toth definitely arranged the version that was played on hockey broadcasts from 1968 through the 1970s. See http://hockeytheme.com/FrameRCDNews.htm - search on that page for "CD Who's Who", where he's listed near the top as original arranger & orchestrator.

The Howard Cable article is flawed; it seems that the editor(s) may have confused or conflated the credit for different arrangements of the same basic music. Cable has definitely made one or more arrangements for piano - I've played one of them myself and IMO he did a very good job on it - but the famous 1968 arrangement definitely wasn't his.

This leaves open the question of whether Howard Cable was involved in any of the several re-arrangements that were played on HNIC in the 1980s and 90s; my undocumented guess is that he wasn't. TooManyFingers (talk) 21:10, 20 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
