The Ending[edit]

Many reviewers of The Color of Paradise took it for granted that Mohammed was dead (drowned) at the end, as his father wept over his body. But then the child's fingers gently moved. Was he alive? Or finally touching the face of God? When director/writer Majid Majidi was asked for a definite answer, he said, "Maybe he is dead...I don't know...but those fingers do MOVE."
