The image at the top of this article is described as "Cover of 1954 Penguin Modern Classics edition of Clayhanger". This seems to me to be almost certainly incorrect. The trade dress seems much more recent than 1954 - I would guess late 1970s/1980s at the earliest. It's possible that the first Penguin edition was 1954, but that's not the same thing, of course.
