Christian reception

Stuff I'll implement in future. Clearly the megachurch-type blokes didn't like how the film had less overt symbolism than LWW, and Douglas Gresham is surprised by criticism over a changed line. There's even commentary from Michael Ward, who deciphered Lewis' classical planet inspirations. The last one reveals Skandar is an atheist, which will come in handy one day. Box Office

On September 4, 2008, the movie closed from the theaters. On Box Office Mogo, it says the movie grossed $378,943,144. But someother editor says the film grossed $416 million without no citation. There was must be proof that it grossed that amount. Christianster45 22:34, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Siege Weapons... trebuchet? catapult?

I remember clearly the siege weapons used by the tal marines during the battle at Aslan's How and how, being an avid siege weapon admirer, ingenious it was. The article lists them as trebuchets, but anyone who has seen a trebuchet can easily say there is no counterweight powering it. Does anyone know the proper name for this instrument or was it merely the director's imagination?Psycholian (talk) 01:03, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

The trebuchet article mentions an earlier version of the weapon called a "traction trebuchet", in which people pull ropes to build tension. LovesMacs (talk) 01:48, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Information on the Telmarine trebuchets is found in the effects section. Director Andrew Adamson wanted rapid firing trebuchets and ballistas, and the resulting props were partly practical and partly digital. Alientraveller (talk) 15:34, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Trebuchets are "single fire" weapons... windup-load-release--repeat. The contraption in the movie has no dropping weight (or even wind-up mechanism) like a traditional trebuchet, but instead has some sort of belt/chain drive and fully circular motion making it a "repeat fire" weapon (like a medieval gatling gun). It appears to simply spin, grab from a row of rocks and throw them. It's definitely not a trebuchet. It's not a historically accurate catapult either, but since catapult is a broad term describing a number of weapons, trebuchet included, I think it's more accurate to describe the somewhat imaginary weapon in the movie as a "catapult". Perhaps it can be agreed that "catapult-like weapon" is better?

I think it well to note that the reason for the novel catapult design is to speed up the action sequences. Modern moviegoers do not have the patience to sit for extended periods of time while actual ancient seige weapons are laboriously loaded and fired. That would be positively boring. In order to to fit a heart pounding and exciting seige into 20 minutes rather than the days or weeks it normally took, concessions had to be made. Thus, the rapid firing and repeating catapult powered by who knows what was invented by a Hollywood special effects team. Jbarta (talk) 12:16, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Filming

Hi, i've found some additional information on the filming of Prince Caspian. Maybe we could add this to the article? According to a review by Kenneth Turan in the LA Times, filming required nearly 2,000 crew and cast members and also the production of more than 1,600 CGI pictures which made it possible to show the battle scenes without blood on the screen. The CGI pictures were produced by Weta Digital in New Zealand among others. Has anyone an onion if it is necessary to add this information to the filming section of the main article on Prince Caspian. Sha-Sanio (talk) 20:32, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Credits order

The movie end credits Ben Barnes first, then the Pevensie children (all five together and in alphabetical order). IMDb credits are the same. However, I noticed that the BEGINNING movie credits list the four Pevensie children FIRST, then Ben Barnes. Thought I'd toss that out for discussion if anyone has an opinon on the matter (as it pertains to the order the credits are listed in this article's infobox). Personally, absent a compelling argument to the contrary, I'm content to see Ben Barnes credited first as he is in the ending/IMDb credits. JBarta (talk) 02:33, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Profit

The introduction currently includes the sentence "While the film was not considered a success in the US with a gross of $141 million it did make $278 million in the rest of the world, while costing $225 million to produce, generating a profit of $194 million". This seems, at best, overly simplistic. Later, the 'Release' section of the article mentions that $175 million was spent on marketing (following up to the source, it turns out that this is actually a 'some industry insiders speculate...' figure). Rather than trying to give a precise figure for the film's profit, I think it might be better to just mention that the film performed poorly compared to its predecessor, while still making a modest profit, or something like that. Although I would never call a profit that we can assume lies somewhere between $100m and $200m 'modest', I do think you have a point. This is a good article, and to let the quality be diminished by a shady statement like that, which doesn't even really matter because we do have an exacte revenue figure, would be a shame. Sopiespan the villain of the piece from the beginning?

In the movie king Miraz before the final battle angrily accuses Sopiespan for more or less deliberately having caused this whole situation with his machiavellian manipulations behind the facade of moderation.
