"Socrates' Sister"

Any idea why this episode was put out-of-order on the DVDs? --Bark 17:37, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

It creates a bit of a continuity problem. Pete is shown alive and well in Socrates' Sister without an explanation. (If you remember, he was shot and presumed killed in the pilot.) In the episode Brisco in Jalisco, he is shown alive and well. Brisco assumes he was dead and asks how he is alive. Pete gives the explanation. That episode aired before Socrates' Sister and was the first occassion we saw Pete after the pilot. It makes sense for Brisco to ask him for that episode. Now by printing the DVDs in the new episode order, we have Brisco asking Pete about how he survived in the wrong episode; it's too late.

Not that I mind too much. It's just interesting and mildly amusing. Outside of the orb arc and John Astin's moustache, that may be the only episode to cause a continuity problem when seen out of order.  :-) --Bark 18:16, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

In the commentary on the dvd, they mention that Pete was supposed to die off in the pilot, but was so entertaining that they ended up bringing him back to life. 67.182.147.140 05:12, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Shotgun/Rifle

On this article, it says that bowler's shotgun was re-used later in firefly, but on the related Firefly article clearly says that the gun is a rifle. Can anyone explain this? If not, I suggest that we remove both statements until they can be verified. Mooseofshadows 02:55, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure there's a contradiction - the main difference between shotguns and rifles is that the former is generally smoothbored and fires a single shotgun round and the latter has a rifled barrel (and there are also rifled shotguns). Externally, they can look kind of the same, so a prop used as a shotgun in one show can be used as a rifle in another. We can probably just say the prop was used as a shotgun in Brisco but a rifle in Firefly. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 03:29, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree that the Brisco prop looks somewhat different from the Firefly prop. Could it have been modified? I see that the imdb lists them as the same, but do we have another source for that? Franzeska 17:14, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Lord Bowler did indeed use a sawed-off shotgun, double barrel. The weapon used on Firefly was a cut-back rifle, also known as a Mare's Leg. Both can be, and are, real weapons and not simply props that were made for a series or a movie. A company that makes a Mare's Leg can be found at http://www.jbcustom.com/mares.htm if someone cares to look. Under terms of the ATF however a Mare's Leg is classed as a 'pistol' and not a rifle per say. This is due to the weapon design and function. The Mare's Leg was the iconic weapon used in the series Wanted: Dead or Alive. I was just watching the show, and while Bowler does use a double-barreled shotgun, the bountyhunter Crystal Hawks (in the episode "Crystal Hawks") DOES use a Mare's Leg. This is where the prop that was later reused in Firefly came from. Tzarium (talk) 14:39, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

I have always heard, from people who worked on Firefly, the the prop in Firefly was Bowler's weapon. The stock was cut down for various reasons which I don't remember. I think the property master, Randy Eriksen, was in charge of this. But rest assured, the Brisco and the Firefly props are, indeed, the same. Gingermint (talk) 03:21, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Concerning the DVD release and the issue of including the bit about Gord Lacy, I put it in because it seemed appropriate for an encyclopedia. Lacy's argument that his website had some influence on the dvd release is also supposed by the fact that he was invited to talks about the dvd release and also to attend the taping of some of the dvd extras.Astrocog (talk) 13:04, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Gang Members

The plot discussion seems to point out there is an inconsistency between the nine members of Bly's Gang caught on screen and the thirteen members of the gang stated. Now I've only just finished watching the pilot but were the four members of Big Smith's gang who shot themselves in the crossfire the "missing four" who seem to be unaccounted for in the list? Certainly Pete Hutter was in the cave with Bly when they were discussing plans from robbing the train. ~ Brother William (talk) 16:34, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Cancellation

The article at present doesn't discuss the show's abrupt cancellation or the reasons therefor. Has this been talked about anywhere in the media or on the DVD commentaries? Robert K S (talk) 19:50, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

It was low ratings that got the show cancelled. It was liked by critics and fans pushed hard to keep the series on, which may be why the show lasted longer than a typical single season. I'll be adding info with citations on this soon. Astrocog (talk) 15:53, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

Lead Section

I have updated the lead section because of the note saying that it was possibly inadequate. As the article is updated and expanded, the lead section can be as well. Reception Section

I have added a section for critical reception to the article. So far, I have a few paragraphs about critical review of the show's pilot episode, with references cited. Plot Section

The plot section is very weak, and is the next part of the article I plan to tackle. I'm still working out how to do it. It doesn't make sense to recount each episode, but a good summary of the pilot, the orb arc, Brisco's dealings with the Bly gang, and perhaps a summary of the final two episodes would be good. Cast Section

I removed the Characters section and replaced it with a Cast section. Rather than just a list of characters, the section now is partitioned into Main and Recurring Characters. With this new section, there is no longer a need for the big supporting characters paragraph I wrote for the Plot section, so I removed it. I retained the Guest Stars paragraph, for lack of a better option at the moment. I think the guest stars paragraph can be reworked and tightened up.Astrocog (talk) 16:48, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

• I've removed guest star section, as I don't see enough significant coverage of the guest stars in the sources. Every show has guest stars, but apart from the recurring characters, I don't see a need for a section listing all the various guest stars.Astrocog (talk) 21:46, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Broadcast History Section

Most good television articles don't have an episode section that is as ungainly as this one. It's a long section, and I think it's an eyesore. As much as I personally love Brisco, I don't think we need this accounting of every episode. That's what IMDB is for. OK, well, I have commented out the big, unwieldy episode table and replaced it with something more sparse. I'm leaving it commented out for now because it might be appropriate to create a separate page for the episode list, as has been done with other shows, such as Firefly and Freaks and Geeks. Both of those shows lasted less than one season, and they have multiple subpages. However, I'm not interested in tackling a subpage just yet. The episode list wasn't removed entirely. It was changed to a simple listing of episodes. Now there is both, which is even more clutter than before. Title Card

I changed the promotional poster in the infobox to the show's title card. Two reasons: the promo poster is nearly the same as a b/w promo poster used later in the same article. There is no need for such duplication. Also, a screenshot of the show's actual title card seems appropriate, and is common with other tv show articles, even ones with FA status. I like the color promo poster, though. Perhaps it could be used instead of the b/w poster in the Reception section?Astrocog (talk) 21:26, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
