Please Don't delete this article![edit]

System76, while not very well known to the general public, is a manufacturer of computers which are pre-installed with the Ubuntu Linux operating system. It does have a place in the Linux community, and indeed in the world of open source software in general. Now, I can't say I know where the discussion (if there is one) regarding the deletion of this article is presently, but I should like to chime in that I for one do not believe that this article should be deleted.

Um, it isn't up for deletion at the present. - Ahunt (talk) 22:33, 1 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to spin off Pop!_OS to its own article[edit]

Pop!_OS has been gaining popularity in the past year and hence it deserves it's own article. It's comparable to elementary OS as per the google trends data for the past year. It's page hits have been rising consistently on Distrowatch as well. I've created a draft article for the same here Draft:Pop! OS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joejose1 (talkcontribs)

Probably a good idea at this point in time. I have had a read of the draft and side from the usual "draft declined due to..." tags it seems fine to me, well-written and referenced with enough refs for WP:GNG. It should probably be moved to Pop!_OS which is currently a redirect. - Ahunt (talk) 17:21, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Pop OS is increasing in popularity. I think it's time to have a dedicated article. Jain Elizabeth (talk) 15:16, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The article seems well written. Pop!_OS now has a solid install base. I think it's notable to have its own page. 2409:4073:313:BE90:9636:F773:7BB4:E416 (talk) 19:32, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that Draft:Pop! OS was declined by User:Sulfurboy not for notability reasons but for tone reasons. The reviewer did not say that the operating system is notable or that it is not notable. So work on the tone before resubmitting. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:50, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Robert McClenon, Should also be noted that three out of the four people that commented on this likely are the same person. The only edits Ahunt and the IP edit have made are in replying to this. I guess they were under the impression it was a straw poll? lol Sulfurboy (talk) 02:53, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No harm, no foul. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:57, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • no Disagree It is just a rebranded Ubuntu with some minor changes, not worthwhile enough to have a standalone article.--Editor-1 (talk) 06:03, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Ref cited says: "I will admit, when I first heard about Pop!_OS I thought it would be just a skinned version of Ubuntu GNOME. Before they released Pop!_OS they released their own Pop OS icon pack and theme and announced the fonts they were going to use. Once I installed them I couldn’t help but think that was all Pop!_OS was going to offer. A new coat of paint on the GNOME desktop. After some time passed, after I tested it out, and as System 76 release more and more information about their new OS I happily found that I was wrong." - Ahunt (talk) 01:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: The draft article has now been greatly expanded with a large number of new refs added, including many third party refs that bring it easily up to WP:GNG. Lacking any further objections or discussion, I will move it to mainspace. - Ahunt (talk) 01:16, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Done - feel free to jump in and start improving the article at Pop!_OS. - Ahunt (talk) 01:40, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
