Possible Merger?[edit]

I propose this article be merged in with the Assyrian Genocide page as Syriac peoples are mentioned to have been victims also(and perhaps the title of that page can be altered to accommodate Syriac people who are not comfortable with the identifier 'Assyrian' as well?) Hopefully someone sees this soon.

Agree. Totally unnessessary article. Shmayo (talk) 13:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the Assyrian genocide needs to complemented. Throughout the article, only Assyrians are mentioned. The TriZ (talk) 14:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The assyrian genocide article is not neutral at all. "Qeṭlā ḏ-‘Amā Āṯûrāyā" AramaeanSyriac (talk) 15:02, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

then fix it, don't create content forks. Redirect this to the existing article per WP:CFORK. --dab (𒁳) 10:13, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely, it has been my opinion from the beginning that this article should be merged with the Assyrian Genocide article. But the Assyrian Genocide article is biased and unbalanced and needs to be fixed. The TriZ (talk) 12:11, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

excellent, then feel free to do that. presenting your case at Talk:Assyrian genocide.Fwiiw, google scholar gives:
  • ca. 20 hits for Sayfo/Seyfo
  • 11 hits for "Assyrian genocide"
  • 1 hit for "Assyrian/Syriac genocide"
  • 0 hits for "Syriac genocide".
it's simply not called "Syriac genocide" in literature, sorry.

Because of that Sayfo/Seyfo/Seifo/Saifo is the most common name that Syriacs refer to the genocide. Also check this for example [1], "The Forgotten Genocide: Eastern Christians, the Last Arameans" by Sebastien De Courtois. The TriZ (talk) 13:31, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is already mentioned in the article and this article needs to be merged or redirected.--Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 22:59, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The second source says "Assyrian Genocide". Why is that cited if this is not the Assyrian genocide? This page is unnecessary and needs to be merged.--Am6212 (talk) 08:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can't understand what you mean? The TriZ (talk) 23:55, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An "Assyrian Genocide" reference is used. This article is completely unnecessary.--Am6212 (talk) 04:29, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't you read the rest of this discussion? The TriZ (talk) 12:12, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

These articles are completely unnecessary and frankly, they are just embarrassing. --Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 20:59, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is you who is embarrasing yourself. The TriZ (talk) 23:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, you have an Aramean page. No one is forcing you to be a part of the other ones. Leave the pages alone. And as dab mentioned, it has always been called the Assyrian Genocide and that is the name that is universally accepted by scholars and organizations that deal with genocides of the past.--Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 01:42, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where is it mentioned that the genocide always have been called the Assyrian genocide? You missed that Sayfo/Seyfo had most hits and that it is the most common name, not only amongst the Syriac people but also amongst scholars? The TriZ (talk) 03:00, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And did you miss the part where there are ZERO hits for "Syriac Genocide"?--Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 03:12, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Again, what are you talking about??? Stay on subject! The TriZ (talk) 03:16, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

     " * 0 hits for "Syriac genocide".
it's simply not called "Syriac genocide" in literature, sorry.

--dab (𒁳) 13:06, 17 October 2008 (UTC)" --Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 03:22, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, so? The TriZ (talk) 13:08, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was NEVER the Syriac Genocide and this site needs to be merged with the Assyrian Genocide.--Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 18:58, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It can be merged, only if that article gets more neutral and mentions the Syriacs (Suryoye) in the article. AramaeanSyriac (talk) 10:42, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The list of the members of the Syriac, Chaldean, and Nestorian churches that were killed is already given in the article.--Suryoyo othuroyo (talk) 04:29, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
