Swype was emailed by an editor (Lars Hjorth) requesting that we make a Wikipedia entry. the competitor ShapeWriter has a wikipedia entry. Swype is also one of Tech Crunch 50's 52 companies they are evaluating this year. It was founded by T9 founder and inventor Cliff Kushler.
for these reasons, I believe Swype should have a Wikipedia page.

I definitely belive Swype deserves a wikipedia page, but be wary of conflicts of interest as I don't think you're really supposed to write/edit articles about yourself (or your company). It looks good so far, keep up with the references. Lime in the Coconut 19:09, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Small problems[edit]

How can swype differentiate "tout" from "tot" or any words that requires exactly the same path ? On my phone, swype doesn't always display a choice, even if the path is very ambiguous.. 88.160.146.82 (talk) 15:55, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Swipe will never actually use the letters you are using, It will add subtract or change whatever it feels like. For example I am clearly typing "yesterday" starts with a y yet i get everything from watermelon, pool to cumulinimbous. just use the letters i am, starting with "Y" I_ hate texting becuase of swipe — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.110.57.9 (talk) 14:38, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

how fast is it actually?[edit]

I came to this page to find out how fast swype is, and it just says how fast the makers says it is. Sounds fishy to me. Especially since it's only 9% slower than the founder brags about doing himself. Anybody have data on how fast normal people actually enter text on this thing? Inaccurate file size?[edit]

The Symbian^3 (Anna) version is 3mb, not <1, in both the Ovi Store (1.x) and Nokia Beta Labs (2.x) versions... 115.64.12.216 (talk) 06:12, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On Android it exceeds 10MB for the Western language pack. This is huge on, say, an HTC Desire with 147MB total storage.203.221.41.40 (talk) 02:42, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Availability and possible obsolescence by Andoid 4.2[edit]

1. The availability may be too difficult to maintain. For instance on Virgin Mobile it comes on the Kyocera Rise as well, I know this because I have one.

2. Android 4.2 stock keyboard has Swype-like capability, and in fact does it one better by doing prediction as you swipe.

List of Phones[edit]

The list of phones that are shipped with Swype is messy and incomplete. If someone familiar with formatting could clean it up that would be awesome.

The alterative is just removing mentions of specific phone models altogether; it doesn't really seem all that necessary.

Initial Release in 2013?[edit]

Why does this page list an Initial Release in 2013 when the page contents clearly state that it was released in non-beta form in 2010? Sparr (talk) 16:30, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the sliding input system?[edit]

Is there a name for the sliding input system that's used not only for Swype, but also Touchpal and other 3rd party keyboards? 142.242.18.254 (talk) 18:24, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Linux-Version?[edit]

I found this Video: Swype for Linux, but cannot open youtube here. swype.com doesn't show it.--Mideal (talk) 14:47, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That video is a joke. Raptir1 (talk) 16:15, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Version way out of date[edit]

I don't know how to change this, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. The table shows 1.6.20 (November 19, 2014) as the latest version on Android while the current version is 2.1.1 and was updated on March 16th. Raptir1 (talk) 16:21, 24 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discontinuation[edit]

Swype has been discontinued and taken off of the App Store and Google Play. Shouldn't this article be changed to past tense because of Swype being discontinued? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.49.155 (talk) 14:36, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@173.66.49.155 Yes, however in the lead paragraph it states Swype WAS a virtual keyboard even though it IS a virtual keyboard. If the app was deleted permanently(it isn't I downloaded the APK and installed it a few days ago) then it should say WAS. Should we change it to IS a virtual keyboard? ~crazy (talk) 17:43, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
