English name[edit]

I checked out the National Scout Organisations, and the name of this organization in English is The Swedish Guide and Scout Council. I think we should change it to that name. --evrik 23:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bad translation: Swedish doens't divide between (Boy) Scouts and (Girl) Guides. --jergen 09:18, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The SSU (Svenka Scoutunionen; Swedish (Boy) Scout Union) was Sweden's WOSM member organization from 1930 to 1966 and the joint WAGGGS and WOSM member organization until 1982 when it changed its name to Svenska Scoutrådet. [1], [2] >small>Maybe the history is more complexe but there are very few sources on the net.
The badge must date early than 1982; AFAIK it was used all member organizations. --jergen 07:37, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Number of members[edit]

The article say: "Today the Svenska Scoutrådet has more than 100,000 members of both sexes." This is not true. Svenska Scoutrådet has five (5) members only, and that is the different scouting organizations listed below. No scout in Sweden is a member of SSR, it is only an umbrella organization for the five existing associations of scouting. I suggest this sentence is either changed to "There are over 100,000 scouts in Sweden." or removed completely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.183.193.103 (talk) 16:08, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: not moved. Seems to be an agreement that, whatever the solution, moving this article is not it. Jenks24 (talk) 16:03, 27 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Svenska ScoutrådetScouterna – the organization was restructured three years ago, but it's all the same Scouts, it's more like a rebranding. Since this article has never been very substantial to begin with, and rather than reinvent the wheel, I propose we rename this article, leaving a redirect, and having a section talking about past history of the present iteration of the organization Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 19:16, 18 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. The "Svenska Scoutrådet" was not renamed or reorganised, but liquidated; the actual National Scouting Organisation "Scouterna" is the rebranded and restructured Svenska Scoutförbundet. The status of the other member organisations of the former SSR has changed to something like franchisees. --jergen (talk) 07:30, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jergen:-care to propose a rename of that article, or write the new one? Sweden is not my area of interest or expertise.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 17:14, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Suggestion[edit]

Since the 5 old Scout associations have now ceased to exist, and each of their pages are pretty much stubs, I suggest we move all 5 of them onto this page, Svenska Scoutrådet - SSR to keep them together and expand as much as possible.

There is also additional information about Svenska Scoutrådet on Scouting and Guiding in Sweden ~ Ablaze (talk) 13:28, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just doing some more reading and it seems like SSF, KFUK-KFUMs, FA, and SSR joined to form Scouterna. That leaves NSF and SMU (and EFS which affiliated with KFUK-KFUMs) as Collaboration Organisation's (Samverkansorganisationer).
Since all the articles are Start or Stub class, and there is a lot of repeating happening here on Svenska Scoutrådet as well as Scouting and Guiding in Sweden, I would still like to clean up and condense this information. Right now the only organisation that exist are Scouterna(1), NSF(2), SMU(3) and EFS (no article). The rest should be merged and I feel this would be the best since it was the umbrella organisation ~ Ablaze (talk) 14:19, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose.
  • Each of the organisations mentioned above has its own unique history that is in most cases far longer than the SSR did even exist. If all these histories were included in the article on the SSR one could argue that most of the content in that article was misplaced and should be deleted.
  • The dissolution of an organisation does not concern its notability. All of the organisations mentioned are notable on their own.
There is no need to condense information. Wikipedia has no problems with the space available. Why do you not expand the articles instead of boiling them down? Even historical membership numbers and former Chief Scouts are of interest when describing an organisation - something you did remove from at least five articles instead of describing them as historical. --jergen (talk) 17:13, 17 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Comment
  • Of course each of the organisations (as well as EFS) has their own unique history, but it isn't recorded here on English Wikipedia. There is 1 line for the entire article for NSF and FA, 3 lines for KFUK-KFUM, and SMU and SSF have a little bit more information. I'm just looking at it from a reader's perspective and it seems wasteful having them click on a link to NSF to see the exact same tiny piece of information as on Scouting and Guiding in Sweden or SSR pages.
  • I didn't expand on the articles and boiled them down because I didn't have/know any information or have reliable sources to expand on. They all read like very outdated articles and needed to be updated. I removed former chairpersons and membership details, because reading the articles having that information in the infobox made it looks like the organisation was still active and still had those membership figures and chairpersons. There could be an exception to NSF, SMU and EFS (no article) if their membership details are separate to those of Scouterna (source?) but the majority of the membership details I removed were unsourced anyway. Also SSR was reporting a membership 100,000 strong! (Is the 30,000 difference made of of NSF, SMU and EFS or has there been a steep decline?) Since WOSM doesn't recognise NSF, SMU and EFS as NSO's there needs to be clarification on those pages and on the Scouterna page.
  • The reason I proposed the merger was because I liked the top-down approach described in the WikiProject Scouting MOS and thought it was a good way to gather all the information in one place before expanding and then separating it back out into their own separate pages. So if there is opposition to a merger, there needs to be some major clean up across each individual page as well as here on SSR, Scouterna and Scouting and Guiding in Sweden to reduce double and triplicating basic information. ~ Ablaze (talk) 12:08, 19 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Support merge to the joint Svenska Scoutrådet page, given the merge. That page should be sufficient to contain all of the necessary information on the English version of Wikipedia; the pages may be appropriately kept separate on the Swedish version, but that seems unnecessary here for the reasons outlined above.
