The camshaft oiling problem seems to be debated among several LS650 owners I know. Could someone cite some sources?
Anyone have any history or etymology for the term "Thumper"? Obviously suggests a connection to Dune, since the engine has a single very large vertical piston (like the Fremen thumpers), but I'd be interested to see mention of it in the article if there are sources. :) Lihan161051 22:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- The camshaft issue used to crop up time and again on the newsgroups back then. It is no problem whatsoever to find plenty of owners' reports who suffered this defect on groups.google.com. (It IS indeed a problem to find an LS that has clocked more than 12,000 miles WITHOUT this failure, so I find the word "reliability" somewhat misplaced in this wiki.)--Cancun771 13:53, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
-I have unfortunately been unable to find any origin on where the term "Thumper" came from. I assumed they were called thumpers for the way they idled, but I have no references to support that. As far as camshaft issues I have NEVER heard of problems with the camshaft until atleast 25k. I have nearly 14k on my Savage and have had zero problems ::knocks on wood:: . I am not discounting your findings at all, I just think some references should be in order to support this. Cancun771 may need more substantial reference for his comments. Please refer to the reference conformation source listed in the Wiki which is "SuzukiSavage.com" where many particpants have many more miles than the 12,000 mentioned and they do not know what he is referring to as his issue. They will however refer you to many repeated non-real disputes cranked up by the particular Wiki entry, which is why it has been removed. Thumper is a common term for large displacement single cylinder motorcycles, which do THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP when rapidly accelerated. Walt Disney's rabbit in Bambi made a similar sound with his rear foot which got him his name, Thumper. No confirmation is possible on this particular connection as opinions do vary. Please list your reference sources for factual items given. Please refer reliablility issues to factory issued rework materials or to documented works by authortative supporting communities such as the world-wide recognized SuzukiSavage.com. Long ago in the late 60's I had a BSA 441 Shooting Star (large displacement/single cylinder). It was commonly called a 'Thumper'. Merger proposal[edit]
Suzuki_LS650_Savage and Suzuki_Boulevard_S40 are the same vehicle with only a different name and minor cosmetic changes. As the S40 is the current model, I propose that the LS650 page redirect to the S40 page. MoofedOne (talk) 20:00, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
