"While the concept of two tribes living at the same camp also appeared in Survivor: Thailand and Survivor: Palau, this is the first time it was employed at the beginning of the game for an indefinite amount of time."

When did this occur in Survivor: Palau?--Goobie m (talk) 03:00, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Very first episode, after the schoolyard pick but before the first Immunity Challenge, at which time Korror changed beaches. 69.92.47.59 (talk) 01:46, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Remember, anytime a reference needs to be made against a dark background, the color of the superscript should be sky blue, so that it shows up well. (134.114.73.89 (talk) 22:52, 22 December 2011 (UTC))

In Survivor: Fiji, they lived in same beach like one tribe for two or three days, didn´t? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.3.53.168 (talk) 20:25, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Returning Players & Redemption Island

Do you know if they will use redemption island & have two returning players like the previous two seasons? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.77.2.199 (talk) 20:35, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the previews for Redemption Island and South Pacific both made specific mention of the returning players and Redemption Island twists so it might be safe to assume that they will not feature because they were not mentioned.--Goobie m (talk) 10:07, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Confirmed to be no. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:02, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Cast revealed

The cast of Survivor: One World has been confirmed more than 14-15 hours ago. Can some edit it right now?

Troyzan

We've already seen Troy listed as "Troyzan" in the form of an interview - the "Meet the Cast" video has him listed as "Troyzan" in the interview. I think it's safe to say that's what he'll be listed as. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.89.177 (talk) 18:03, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

I didn't watch the video until now. I agree that listing him at Troyzan is reasonable since that is how he is listed. Although his individual video lists him as just Troy. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 18:56, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Sourcing

Gogo Dodo apparently feels that we don't need to source the Contestants and the teams they are going to be on. His comment to me was that the other items which are sourced on the page have links to the source which proves the Contestants' information, but how is the reader supposed to know that? The Mark of the Beast (talk) 18:58, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

The cast list is a basic piece of information to the show. A visit to the official website as listed in the external links page will quickly show you the cast list. There is no information in the cast list that is buried or not easily accessible on the official website. Unlike the paragraph for Leif Manson and Monica Culpepper or the lede where sources are provided. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 19:11, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
In other words, "There are sources for this section, but I don't feel like providing them, and don't you do it either, and if anybody wants to find sources, all they have to do is hunt through this article and look at all of the sources for other things in order to, hopefully, find what you're looking for." The Mark of the Beast (talk) 00:42, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Please do not make up quotations for me. I never said that you can't do it. I said that I thought it was unnecessary. You came in and added in the unsourced tag and I removed it telling you why when you questioned it. You made no attempt at adding a citation, you only restored the unsourced tag. If it is so important for you, then feel free to add it. You can use either of the two sources that are already listed in the article or any other ones if you prefer a third. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 03:09, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

New immunity idol rules

In the header this quote can be found: "The second twist is that each tribe will have a Hidden Immunity Idol for them at camp, but the holder of the Idol can not use it for themselves or for their tribemates. Instead, the idol can only be given to a member of the opposing tribe to use" I think this is wrong. I realize that is what the quote on the site said, however they've been airing a special about the show lately and I think the quote in the article is out of context. This is how I understand it via that special: There are two idols, one for each team, and if you find the OTHER TEAMS idol, you must do as Probst explains above, but if you find the one for your team, you can use it normally.

I'm not suggesting to change it (since my source is the TV special) but simply to be aware that it might be slightly inaccurate. He also said that the action where they have to give it to the other tribe had to be done before the next tribal council. --Mee Ronn (talk) 05:57, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

That's also what I understood from the show Wedesnay. Sabrina found the Manono idol and had to give it to a guy before the next Tribal Council. --Maxime9232 (talk) 03:49, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Notation of Do-It-Yourself challenges in The game table

I do not think that the Do-It-Yourself challenges should be footnoted in the game table as the usual pattern for footnotes has been to mark unusual events such as unfinished challenges, forfeiting rewards, etc. or combined challenges were somebody new to the article would not understand why table cells were combined or people names were struck. Essentially, they are there to indicate why a single table cell does not have the expected single winner. The Do-It-Yourself challenges are really just Jeff-less challenges. Nothing is particularly special about them. I think it is fine to note them in the episode summary, but adding footnotes for them to the game table would just clutter up the table. Past precedence (see episode 4 of Survivor: Samoa) has been to not footnote. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:42, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Tribal swap

[2]

CBS official preview says there is a tribal swap. Some new tribe assignments are visible on the preview, so I labeled them on the page. Remember, CBS is a reliable source. Thegreyanomaly (talk) 20:38, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

As true as that may be, I have two issues with this. First of all, not everyone's buff was seen, which makes the table misleading. Also, you can't tell, in some instances, if the shots were taken before or after the switch. And finally, this can be seen as a spoiler for people who are casual viewers of the show and don't religiously look at cbs.com. 67.242.136.224 (talk) 22:01, 9 March 2012 (UTC)
Any screencap where a woman has an orange buff clearly indicates post-swap. Also, it is pretty clear that they were unaware of the swap until it happened, meaning all the discussions seen were post swap. Pretty much all of the five Manono updates I made were verified to be post-swap from those criteria.
Also, you should know Wikipedia does not WP:CENSOR spoilers. I've talked to Gogo Dodo about citing previews and updating the page based off of them on multiple occasions Thegreyanomaly (talk) 00:59, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
I agree with what both of you are saying and support only the listing of a switched tribe where the switch is obviously post-switch: woman wearing orange or a guy wearing teal (which you don't see). Everything else is speculative. So, I think it is obvious that Monica is switched, Alicia is switched, Colton stays because he is seen wearing orange when Alicia is wearing orange. I can't tell whose hand he is shaking, though obviously a woman (Christina?). I think Leif and Jonas's status is speculative as you don't see them with a woman wearing orange. You can't go by what they are talking about because we have seen deceptive previews before and as the IP says, that could have taken place before the switch. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 06:30, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
http://realitytvmagazine.sheknows.com/2012/02/02/survivor-one-world-new-promo-shows-tribes-swapped/ This probably non-reliable source has screen caps from an old preview, but the preview has been deleted from Youtube. The IPs edits are consistent with this source. Thegreyanomaly (talk) 01:07, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
With the video being deleted, one can only use what is written in the article. That would set Leif and Michael's tribes and Christina if you make an assumption. However, one could argue, though not very likely, that the reported video is for a second switch. Is it reliable? With the screencaps, it probably is. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:47, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
It isn't beyond them to do a second swap though. Thegreyanomaly (talk) 18:23, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Alright, next time i will remember to add the citations. pieniazek666 (talk)23:00, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Not a problem. Hopefully there won't be a second switch. Tomorrow everything will all be settled and the references can be removed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 23:06, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Tikiano

If you're watching, the Tribe chose its new name and as we know it's black. Feel free to dabble if I did it wrong on the template. –BuickCenturyDriver 00:52, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Format

As you know, six castaways won the reward challange and I can't seem to agree with Gogo Dodo as to whether the table should be formatted. While GD claims to go with keeping an old way of letting the text flow this list of six names really streches the table a bit, so instead of editing back and forth, let's take a vote. Please sign your name under the way you'd like it so we could do what this site prides itself in -- establishing a consensusBuickCenturyDriver 08:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

  1. I guess it's my browser/screen settings, but they look exactly the same to me (I do see the difference in the code, but when viewing the page they're the same). I see the table stretched vertically to 6 lines, so each name is on a line by itself. So, when I inadvertantly changed my IE window to "compatibility view" now I see the 2 formats the way everyone else is, and I like this one better (even if it were just on 2 lines instead of 3 would also be ok) but the 6 names stretched across a single line makes the rest of the table look odd to me. But, I agree with Katanin we do need to use the stribe template to ensure future consistency in case the template itself is changed. --LarryJeff (talk) 16:14, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
Problem is everytime I try to use the stribe temp with the "br" tag it reveals a bunch of HTML gibberish. For some reason "br" is not good with temps. –BuickCenturyDriver 01:40, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

  1. Definitely this way, it's much more aesthetically pleasing. The horizontal stretching out doesn't look bad at all. Also, regardless of the stretching, there's no point in not using the "stribe" template. - Katanin (talk) 14:50, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
  2. Ah, table formatting, the bane of all Survivor articles... Well, it is pretty obvious on what my opinion is. LarryJeff's observation is exactly the point I try to make about just letting the text flow and not worry about how it looks. With Wikipedia's limited formatting capabilities, you are never going to be able to tweak the format of the lines to get it look right on everybody's web browsers. Everybody's browser window widths (the main driver of the text flow debate), fonts, font sizes, browser choice, and personal opinions are different. What looks fine for you can look terrible for somebody else and vice versa. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 16:18, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

New Template for the Series

Check it out: {{Survivor season}}. You can use this to create the article for Survivor 25 after it's announced next month. Of course, I'm open to any feedback. –BuickCenturyDriver 09:44, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Merge Cells

Previous seasons (sans Redemption Island and South Pacific) have had the merged tribe cell cover all those who apply to it but now it's Tikiano for every cell? How is this justified as the notes in the coding state "that it might not work" when it clearly has the 21 other times? 62.60.118.38 (talk) 12:04, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

The diffrence is the sortable table, I for one dont see much of a diffrence both ways show the same thing. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 16:44, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
Because the previous seasons where the cells are merged are not sortable tables. The table was redesigned during Redemption Island, see Talk:Survivor: Redemption Island#Redesigned Contestants table, so that it is sortable. The split cells are so that the sorting works properly. The format change was then applied to the previous Nicaragua season. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 16:47, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Would

Can someone explain the use of the word "would" in the article? Its use makes the text awkward in my opinion, and I don't see how it's even correct. Victor Engel (talk) 23:34, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

I write the challenges in future tense and the episode summaries in past tense because the challenges are listed first in the episode summaries and the summaries sometimes reference aspects of the challenges. I found it a bit clunky to read both in past tense, but that can certainly be changed. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:55, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
What does that have to do with the word "would", which is used for neither past nor future? It's English's way to denote subjunctive, which seems inappropriate here.

Give Kim Own Page

I know that there are varying opinions on pages for Survivor winners, but 21 of the first 23 do. Kim was not just a random winner, so I say that she should have her own page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.62.204.99 (talk) 03:05, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

You could create it, but then the notability police will examine the page and nominate it for deletion. Unless a castaway is known for something outside of survivor, the best thing to do is redirect to Survivor: One World. Believe me, I learned it the hard way in creating an article for Survivor: South Pacific's winner. –BuickCenturyDriver 05:38, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Airlines

Funny, but doesn't this season's "One World" subtitle remind you of this article? –BuickCenturyDriver 05:38, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Colton "Quitting"

During the third episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water, Jeff Probst claimed that Colton feigned his appendicitis in Survivor: One World as a way to effectively quit the game. However, Colton maintained that he was still treated for a bacterial infection. Colton said this both during the Survivor: Blood vs. Water episode and during his post-show interviews in Survivor: One World.

Because there seems to be a disagreement between the host and the contestant over the nature of Colton's removal, is it appropriate to definitively state that Colton "quit" during Survivor: One World? Furthermore, is there precedent for retroactively changing a player's status for a previous season? For example, Jeff Probst mentioned in this interview that Kathy Sleckman of Survivor: Micronesia was removed due to mental and emotional issues, but her exit was edited as a completely voluntary "quit" at the time. Her status on the Survivor: Micronesia page hasn't been changed, though.

I personally think that until both Colton and Jeff state that Colton faked his illness in Survivor: One World, the "canon" depiction of his exit as a medical evacuation should remain in the table. CarolinaRaven (talk) 02:30, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Many of the so-called "quitters" left the game for reasons other than not being able to handle it. For example, Jenna and Sue in All-Stars (Jenna left to be with her dying mother, Sue had psychological issues stemming from an incident in one of the challenges), and Janu in Palau (retired from the game to give Stephanie another chance). Kathy in Micronesia is debatable - Jeff could have just used spin to hide the fact she couldn't handle the game. Colton in One World is hard to say, other contestants have chosen to quit for health reasons even though they weren't life threatening (yet) e.g. Dana in the Philippines.. Other genuine quitters, such as Jonny Fairplay in Micronesia and Brandon Hantz on Caramoan asked their tribe or forced their tribe to vote them out. So maybe we need to have alternative depictions to "Quit" e.g. "Left" or "Retired" for most of the above, and use italics on the depiction for situations like Jonny and Brandon. [Anon] 12:08, 3 October 2013 (AWST) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.161.139.253 (talk)

I think the results of this season should be left as they are. At the time, everything was as written.
I also think trying to have alternatives to Quit such as Left or Retired is a bad idea as that requires a judgement call. The point is that they quit. Why they quit is not as important and shouldn't be used a scarlet letter where some quits are worse than others. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:03, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
