Page Title[edit]

Why is this page not Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud? Other prominent members of the Al Saud family are listed as (for example) Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 06:45, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Shhhnotsoloud:} Page titles for members of the Al Saud family are tremendously inconsistent, which is a problem only amplified by their size. I suggest no changes be made, unless their is standardisation. You can look at this page for a list of some prominent members, Descendants of Ibn Saud, and you can view this page for how their are formatted differently to their page titles Saudi alumni of Sandhurst The Wiki formatting is here

*Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah *Prince Khaled bin Abdullah *Prince Khalid bin Sultan *Prince Khalid bin Bandar *Prince Saud bin Abdul-Muhsin *Prince Sultan bin Fahd *Prince Turki bin Talal *Prince Abdulrahman bin Talal

Requested move 19 May 2022[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: no consensus. Strictly speaking this low-participation RM is unopposed, but given the previous discussions on this issue I can't simply assume that consensus exists. Several relists and WikiProject notifications haven't gotten us anywhere, so "no consensus" is my only real option. Going forward, it might be wise to start an RfC to discuss this issue more generally, as suggested below. (closed by non-admin page mover) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 21:59, 25 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

– The general practice for the Saudi royals (see Category:House of Saud) is to use the surname. This is true for maybe 90% of cases. Perhaps an exception can be made for a few such as Mohammed bin Salman and certainly for the kings, but most of the time and for the articles listed above, WP:COMMONNAME seems to include the surname. • relisting comment: in November 2020 at Talk:Nayef bin Abdulaziz, there was an RM which had requested the exact opposite names, and was successful. In November 2021, there was another RM which requested titles requested in this RM. The 2021 RM was closed as "no consensus". I believe this RM needs more participation. It is also recommended to establish a precedent/consistency by starting a discussion at relevant wikiproject. —usernamekiran (talk) 13:39, 27 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
