Help:Referencing for beginners should get you where you need to go. The "trick" is that you're not going to add anything directly to the References section. You want to add a citation directly after the content. -- Fyrael (talk) 16:39, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@NickWilson1964: The most basic way to do it is to put a bare URL in ref tags, like <ref>http://classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=5134&year=1954&model=29312</ref>. Most people consider this a little half-assed, so there are a few things you can do to make it better. One is to actually use {{cite web}}, and fill in the details manually, like <ref>{{cite web|url=http://classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=5134&year=1954&model=29312|title=1954 Studebaker Champion Regal Series 15G Conestoga|website=The Classic Car Database}}</ref>. (There is more stuff that the {{cite web}} template takes, like author name, year, etc, but if you can't find it, the template will still work).

The big-brain thing to do (or at least the thing I do) is put in the bare ref, save the page, then open up a different window and go to https://refill.toolforge.org/ and type in the name of the page. It isn't perfect, but it does automatically fill in a lot of the fields. Sometimes it will be a little sloppy, but it's easier for me to go and fix the date on a citation template than type everything in by hand. jp×g 23:14, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
