Pictures choice

This "random guy" is a major player of the absurd propaganda. Not only his face has been seen by every single awaken parisian (France) since 2003 but ne managed to publish the exact same face in Art magazines (at least one: Beaux arts magazine). Redlinks are actually a great part of Wikipedia, as it encourages others on the subject to contribute an article someone else thinks is needed. While post-graffiti would probably only become a redirect, the others you removed could become legitimate articles someday. I can assume that you want to make some good faith edits, but I would suggest leaving most redlinks in place for the above reasoning. Let me know if you have any other questions, use my talk page. I have restored some of the redlinks. I agree that post-graffiti would likely only become a redirect here, so it should not be linked. However, I feel there is value in some of the other redlinks that existed. My only other change was moving List of street artists to the See also section. Street artist

The article street artist seems to be talking about kind of a different topic, but the terminology is confusing. Any suggestions? --Galaxiaad 22:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I have a problem with this article, and I address-it in to this topic because has a similar name to my problem (and maybe the solution to your question). I think street art therm is not treated properly. From what I see is treated as an artistic movement, i am inclined to say an aestetic one, but you can think out that the only comomn thing is the place, "Museum", in which the works are displayed, i mean the street. If we call any drawing, or something like an art form, a street art object, would mean that we are so ignorant, and that everything is in the Louvre Museum, we will name it Luvreism. But you should understand that while a museum select their collections and create their rational way of understanding the art displayed, public space tends to behave differently and allow a very wide space for concepts and their forms .I think the article should be rethought in this manner, not by the scene, but by the artists involved. In smaller words i think that Street art should be refered not as an art but as a STAGE . Also i think the section with Key locations should be refered as scenes, like "street art scenes" (this is very interesting because it shows us influences and levels of the technical and intellectual / cultural in expresing theirself in public of the local people or turists, [new tought: we should corelate it with public expresion like an expresion of it, and public spaces by ocupating it] ). And i think unless this point is made clear, we will succed in misleadig the people. Also I apologize for my awkwardness in speaking English. Examples of Guerrilla art?

I know the Guerrilla Girls was established in NYC in the mid 80's. The article claims that the movement is grafitti based in the UK before that. Can we get a little history and timeline here? Barcelona Street Art link removed?

Hi, I'm not sure why the link was removed, but I looked at it and I would say that it doesn't meet our guidelines on external links. In particular, it fails WP:ELNO point 13, which reads Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: the link should be directly related to the subject of the article. A general site that has information about a variety of subjects should usually not be linked to from an article on a more specific subject. Similarly, a website on a specific subject should usually not be linked from an article about a general subject. If a section of a general website is devoted to the subject of the article, and meets the other criteria for linking, then that part of the site could be deep-linked. Barcelona Street Art is a specific example of this article's subject; which is street art in general. I hope this helps. ThemFromSpace 15:50, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

That section contains links to pages like Irish street art, UK street art, German street art, and even a link to an exhibition in the TATE modern. Those links are OK but Barcelona Street Art does not meet the guidelines?! DrCase (talk) 16:07, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Not all of those links are ok either. Wikipedia is a work in progress and always needs more work, especially in cleanup areas. The section is currently tagged for review. ThemFromSpace 02:47, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

I removed all the links because they weren't relevant or reliable but I did link to the open directory project, a site which collects external links and organizes them by topic. Yes, no new sources were added. For example, "Ancient Romans were espically fond of using street graffiti graffiti as a political voice, sprawling messages and cartoons in public places about the republic and its leaders." Other types of street art?

I expected an article about juggling, pantomime, improvisational theatre, etc., as well as drawing and painting, under this title. User:Victuallers confirmed my suspicion at Template talk:Did you know#Pflasterspektakel (quote: "I think the article on Street Art is wrong. Of course (in English) the first thing you think of... is people on pavements with chalks, but the unicyclists etc are street art too. Could you spare the time to add some bits to Street Art .....")

If you lump street painters in with juggling, musicians, mimes, etc. - they are all street "performers". I think Street Art refers to that which is left behind - either by a tagger, muralist, or chalk artist. One difference between a graffiti artist and a street painter (chalk artist), is that usually a graffiti artist doesn't want to be seen. A street painter is the opposite. We create art in the day in front of big crowds and interact with them. We consider it a performance art, like music, because you participate in it, enjoy the process of it, then it's gone. Street performing is an entirely different kind of art form from the genre referred to as street art. Street art is associated with artists taking to the streets rather than conforming to showing their work only in galleries for crowds attracted to such events. Street artists take their messages and other visual expressions straight to the people and yes, it's left behind though it may not be permanent. "Art" can refer to fine art (paintings, sculpture, etc.) and the performing arts. There seem to already be two articles for the street versions of these: street art and street performance. If there are better terms, it would be interesting. Sometimes fine art has a major performing arts aspect, with the sidewalk chalk artist (as mentioned), some caricaturists, landscape painters, spray-can painters working very visibly. Street Art in Paris

I tried to modify the article but my modifications were dropped because of a lack of resources. It is very hard to have formal ("verifiable") resources on street art so if anyone has them, please help. I wanted to include information the different forms of street art in Paris which are not mentioned at all, including Invader, Jef Aérosol, Miss.Tic and others. Merger proposal

The article on Street Art is a mess as it tries to define street art but it cannot be defined. Museums are organized and can at least be explained to why they exist, who they support, the art they host and so forth. Street Art is predictable, unpredictable, legal and illegal, expensive and inexpensive, performance art, fine art, sculpture, temporary, permanent, planned and unplanned... I suggest we keep Street Painting (and possibly many of the other art forms on the street art page) separate because it can at least be defined and not confused with anything else. There is a vast amount of improvement that can take place with the Street Painting article that will improve it over time. So, just as you would not try to explain every art form that is in a Museum... why would we try to explain every form of art that happens on the street under Street Art? I've looked at a few recent newspaper articles using the terms and although the terms are sometimes used interchangeably by journalists there does appear to be two entirely different topics in these newspaper articles. "Street art" tends to be associated with graffiti, is illegal and on walls. "Street painting" tends to be done with permission and on sidewalks and street surfaces. There is overlap and these are generalizations. As media catches up with the separate cultural phenomenon there aught to be reference enough to support separate articles. Streetart is german. The italian and french make the joke about street-tarts (about tne Banksy paint) so please. Don't forget the poor, the gypsies, the mimes, the homeless triing to survive in the street by singing, painting and selling their stuff. Gallery is excessive

First, galleries are generally recommended against on WP. In this case, a gallery does make sense, given that this is in large part about visual art. Nonetheless, it's too large, and it seems like people just add any image that strikes their fancy. I think we need to cut it down by about half. Anyone have any opinions what should stay/go?
