Wikipedia Entry Nominated for Speedy Deletion

I nominate that this entry be removed on the basis of self promotion/advertisement-like content.

Discussion: Is this entry appropriate or just being used for self-promotion? It is not like he is Peter Jennings that Mr. Weiss should have a wikipedia entry. More importantly, why is a dentist (DMD) the one who started this entry? A little research shows that Dale Rosenbach may have gone to Yeshiva University at the same time. Perhaps, this was a favor done to help promote Mr. Weiss.

Generally, there seems to be a growing problem on wikipedia with it being used for self-promotion. It also seems that the living person rules are being abused on a far wider basis. I think it is time that the wikipedia community do a better job policing itself before this encyclopedia loses its credibility of becoming littered with entries making it into a who's who. The fact that there are so many celebrities on here is disconerting - this shouldn't be IMDB.com. You may nominate it as such, but I will counter that nomination.

The benchmark for attaining notoriety is, thankfully, not that one must be as notable as Peter Jennings. And may dentists only edit dentistry-related articled? I happen to have attended Yeshiva University at the same time as Mr. Weiss, but having gone to college with the subject of an article hardly constitutes a conflict of interest.

Your complaint then descends into what appears to be a rant. And an article is only as good as the editors have made it -- just because it's poorly written or poorly organized doesn't mean it merits deletion, and it's highly dubious coming from two individuals who sign their real names only a few days after the Michael Broyde/Gil Student/Yated affair broke. If you have what to contribute, please do so -- all are welcome to edit in a civilized manner utilizing independent, verifiable, third-party source material. This article still looks like self promotion. Far too much in this article is uncited. Either clean it up or take it down. No one outside of YU and J-Blogging knows who he is. Seriously, why is this entry even here? Wikipedia should not be used in this way.

Could someone cite the following: "Weiss first made a name for himself while a student journalist at Yeshiva University. Michael Wolff, in a column for New York Magazine, cited Weiss's commentary on New York Times writer Thomas Friedman. During the 2001 New York City mayoral election, Weiss broke the story of candidate Michael Bloomberg's donations to the Democratic club run by the brother of the only Democratic elected official to endorse him in that race.

Weiss's work as a student led to a position in Wayne Barrett's office at The Village Voice, where he reported on issues ranging from organized crime associates' contracts with municipal unions, to New York elected officials' stances on the Iraq War."

What about this? Maybe CampusJ needs its own article. This has no citation: "The mission of CampusJ was to "train a young generation of Jewish journalists in the reporting styles and methods of new media, while giving them the training and opportunities to enter the journalism workforce better-equipped than many of their fellow-classmen." CampusJ successes included a deal for reprinting rights with Jewish news wire service JTA, and forcing The New York Times to admit an ethical lapse in its reporting on an agreement a New York Times reporter made with the administration of Columbia University to not quote students' views in an article."

Citation please: His 2011 report on an Israeli government ad campaign warning expatriates against marrying Americans generated so much outrage among U.S. groups that the prime minister personally ordered the ads taken down.

Citations please: Weiss is particularly known for his digital journalism innovations. New York Times best-selling author Jeffrey Sharlet wrote of him, "Weiss is a case study in how the internet can foster nonfiction writing that’s deeper, smarter, and more entertaining than that manufactured through the chain of command at the dailies." New media figure Jeff Jarvis wrote that Weiss is "One of the most energetic, talented, dedicated people I've met in this world."

Ben Smith declared Weiss's investigation into the New York State Department of Health "a quite damning indictment."

Weiss's report on an Israeli government ad campaign warning expatriates against marrying Americans generated coverage by a great many prominent writers and publications, starting especially with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg, and generating mention in The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC's Rock Center with Brian Williams, among many other publications. Response from usually-staid U.S. Jewish groups was of great anger, including a statement from the Jewish Federations of North America that the ads were "outrageous and insulting." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by ordering the ads taken down.

Does anyone get it? This is called original research, and it is self promotion. I suggest the timeline should be that if this content is not cited within the next 10 business days it should be quickly removed. I think the fact that his friend put most of this up without citation shows a poor understanding of how wikipedia works. I've just seen this today, and so will comment now.

I saw Mr. Weiss on television once or twice. So I figured he's notable enough to have a Wikipedia article. Then I saw him interview Newt Gingrich. As a non-journalist, I imagine that that's something any journalist would like to do -- interview a major political figure, whether or not you agree with his or her politics. Frankly, I think it's silly that you're claiming that I do not know understand how Wikipedia works, when you rant and rave without even having a sign-in handle. While you remain free to post as a guest / IP address, I think it belies the lack of seriousness you exhibit, and it seems that you appear to have a conflict of interest against Mr. Weiss. And your supposed criteria for speedy deletion were so easily beaten back by the multitude of online and in print references to Mr. Weiss that, again, I think it is you who needs to brush up on how Wikipedia "works" -- good day, sir.
