Stub the article and build up?[edit]

I and at least one other editor have received emails from Beverley Davies who claims to be MR. Morgan's PA and edits under the username User:Bcdavies. She raised concerns about incorrect content in the article and complained about her own edits being reverted. I have left her a note explaining some of our policies but since this article doesn't really follow best practice for Wikipedia biographies I also want to suggest some drastic editing.

The article currently has little in the way of reliable sources especially ones that demonstrate the importance of assertions. I suggest stubbing the article so that it only contains information that is reliably sourced and clearly encyclopedic. We can then build it up from there with good sourcing. -- SiobhanHansa 11:35, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Family[edit]

Please note the following entry which I received on my talkpage, and which I hope other editors can respect in line with Wikipedia's policy on articles with regards to living persons:

Dear Trident 13

I have recently noticed the editing you have undertaken to the entry in my name. The entire background entitled 'Family' is factually incorrect on the following grounds:

1. I do not have three children from my first marriage. 2. My first wife and I were divorced in 2000 - I did not divorce her. 3. The £100m divorce settlement is total press speculation and none of the figures in the press are true. The settlement between me and my ex-wife is a private matter. We have never commented on its contents and never will. The figures bandied about in the press are total speculation and therefore this reference is wholly inaccurate. 4. The amount raised from my Redrow share sale in 2000 was substantially below the £198m quoted. 5. I had been living in Jersey since 1996. 6. I have been living in Cheshire since 2005 - four years before my 'greater involvement with Redrow.'

In view of the above inaccuracies I have removed the family section. If you must refer to family at all please adopt the previous accurate wording, which reflects the true circumstances. (I have already made this edit and trust you will respect it).

Regards

Attempting to update Mr Morgan's profile[edit]

I have recently made an attempt to update Mr Morgan's profile using factual information backed up by independent references and sources. Everything I submitted was removed. I have contacted the editor and Wikipedia's support team for help and advice and am sincerely hoping that I might be able to make some updates going forward. I have stated who I am on my userpage and am trying to follow all the rules for updating information. Any help/feedback/gentle guidance would be much appreciated. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryJane263 (talkcontribs) 13:33, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"I have stated who I am on my userpage" you probably weren't logged in at the time, you added that info to User:95.129.70.198 but not to User:MaryJane263. - X201 (talk) 14:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
"...made an attempt to update Mr Morgan's profile using factual information.." You also altered information and removed references e.g the referenced "Training as a site engineer, in 1974 Morgan borrowed £5,000 from his father to buy his then employers, Wellington Civil Engineering, which was on the verge of going out of business." had its reference removed and was altered to "In 1974, aged 21, Steve Morgan borrowed £5,000 from his father to set up a civil engineering company," which has no references.
This article has suffered, for a number of years, from people close to Mr Morgan (yes, even the supposedly anonymous ones) editing it in promotional/PR tone, rather than as an encyclopaedic article. We're happy to help fix any errors or commissions and add new relevant information, but this is here to be an encyclopaedic article, not a press release or his version of his life.
I'll try and address the specific edits in another post later. - X201 (talk) 14:33, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help I will go back to it and try and make it more encyclopedic. Is the best way to just keep posting amends and see if they get accepted, or can I post a draft section somewhere for it to be approved? Thanks again.— Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryJane263 (talkcontribs) 09:35, 11 March 2015‎

There was an approach that was used on an article last year that seemed to work well, we could try that if you want. It entailed making a draft copy of the article and then working through it one paragraph at a time, this makes it easier to track changes and point out any problems, then when the draft is done and agreed on, it gets copied over as the new version of the article. Its slower, but the article benefits as a whole. - X201 (talk) 09:53, 12 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
