The Amount of vandalism this Page suffers from English people shows how shit McClaren must be as a manager. That people from his own country would write disgusting criticism on his page proves, as well as his record in competition - that he is not very good at managing football teams.

Yeah. He's also managing England which makes him a legitimate target for all forms of abuse and intrusion into the private lives of himself and everyone around him. I think The News of The World is has plans to do a weekly pull out featuring previously unseen information about a different one of the items of furniture in his living room. Steve as a youth[edit]

I was in the year above Steve at Nunthorpe. I've edited the part about him representing Yorkshire as a schoolboy - he couldn't have, as the county didn't exist as a political or sporting unit for football teams anymore after 1973. He would have represented North Yorkshire, as did Brian Kelly of Nunthorpe School in our year. (A team, by the way, that also included future Leeds United player Aiden Butterworth from Tadcaster Grammar School.)

And if he really did travel as many as 5 miles each way to & from the Shipton Street area, where he lived, to Nunthorpe School, (or is the original writer suggesting it was 10 miles each way?), I don't think much of his navigational skills.

I've just met up with the Brian mentioned above, who's still a mate - he informs me Steve didn't play at County level, and he didn't even play for York City Schools. McClaren walks out of press conference after only 1 minute and 55 seconds.[edit]

After the teams' 3-0 win over minnows Andorra on 28th March 2007, England's head coach stormed out of the post-match Press conference, responding to just two questions. This has increased pressure from the British media, who view his actions as further proof that he cannot cope with the pressure of leading his country.

Regarding the England Head Coach section[edit]

Is there any proof about the line which says that the FA will sack Steve if the fans continue to boo him? That sounds very farfetched, and I don't see even the Sun mention it. If there is no evidence, it may violate WP:BLP--Kylohk 20:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided to remove that paragraph. I can imagine the impact on Steve McClaren's life and career, and possibly provoke mass booings by any disgruntled England fans if it stays there. Steve McClaren England[edit]

Is it wrong to write that he has lost the trust of the England fans when he so obviously has? As a fan and in being so knowing a large number of people who also are fans and in my ability to read papers and so gauge public opinion that in his time as England manager he was an unpopular choice to start with and has done nothing to improve his relationship to the fans. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Browner7680 (talk • contribs)

Obsession with Beckham[edit]

Why are there two boxed quotes about Beckham? Why aren't there quotes of what he said about Carragher? Why aren't there quotes about what he said about Sol Campbell returning? I'm sick of the numerous references to that overrated celebrity!

Closest rivals[edit]

I deleted the part which stated that Russia are Englands closest rivals, it simply isn't true. Englands rivals are Argentina, Germany and possibly Scotland.

This should show up somewhere in administrator land and initiate them in to doing something. "Faced with a deciding qualifier against Croatia, England would have qualified with a draw or a win, irrespective of other results. McClaren made several key decisions including dropping Paul Robinson for Scott Carson and David Beckham for Shaun Wright-Phillips. These decisions did not pay off, and with Carson partly responsible for the first goal; England were 2-0 down after 14 minutes. The team clawed back the deficit after half time but ultimately went down to a Mladen Petrić goal in the 77th minute, 2-3. After a meeting on Thursday morning The Football Association chose to dispose McClaren[1] / McClaren is expected to lose his job[2]

The detail is necessary as its his final match...probably the last time he'll be in management for a while I expect

Place of birth[edit]

I've corrected McClaren's place of birth in the text. It was showing 'Howden, Yorkshire' per an article in the Telegraph but in fact is Fulford, York, as can be seen from numerous ghits[1] (including McClaren's own website). A lot of people from York were born in Fulford Hospital as it was a major maternity unit - he has mothing really to do with the village.
He may not have spent any time there while growing up, but McClaren's place of birth should still be given as Fulford. Details about his early life should be mentioned in the prose, not quibbled over in the infobox. – PeeJay 11:16, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Error in intro?[edit]

"His first commentary game will be Austria v Croatia on 8 June 2008 - a game in which he would have managed England in place of Croatia, had qualification been achieved"

Are we quite sure about this? I thought Croatia finished top of the group ahead of Russia so had England qualified surely, depending on results, they would have been more likely to qualify at the expense of Russia than Croatia. Aside from that, even if England had qualified in place of Croatia, England would most likely have had a higher co-efficent than Croatia and so could well have been placed in a different pot and may not have even been drawn into the same group as Austria. There is no mention of how England might have been involved in this game on the source given. Does anyone have any reliable source stating that England would definately have been drawn into the same group that Croatia have if they had qualified in their place? If not, I think this claim should be removed, there are any number of circumstances which could lead to England being drawn into a different group to which Croatia where drawn into. No, on the basis of UEFA's coefficient system, had England qualified at the expense of Croatia, they'd have ended up in the same pot 2 (see UEFA.com)

Mind, had England, a team with millions of pounds worth of talent, some of the best players in the world, paid the highest salaries, playing at home in front of 90,000 fans, then FIFA ranked 8th in the world and managed by a man who earnt 4 million quid a year beaten Croatia by two clear goals, England would have won the group...had it not been for the wally with the brolly...c'est la vie!...Jw2034 (talk) 21:25, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well fair enough, I wouldn't have expected Croatia to be seeded as high as Pot 2, but regardless it's all based on assumptions that England would have achieved certain results and qualified ahead of Croatia rather than Russia so it dosen't belong in the article. Has anyone got a free image of him in his last game (with the brolly) to add to the article? If not, could a non-free image be used under fair use as Images with iconic status or historical importance: As subjects of commentary. or Film and television screen shots: For critical commentary as per Wikipedia:Non-free content?
