A different viewpoint[edit]
I just came across much different take on this subject at managingwholes.com/soil-crusts.htm. It deserves to be evaluated and incorporated into this article. Paleorthid 20:58, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
Copyright violation?[edit]
This article is identical with this external source. Is that OK? (See WP:COPY) --Mosmas 15:11, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure that soilcrust.org is a work of the United States Geological Survey, which would mean that it is OK to reuse the text since works of the US government cannot be copyrighted. --Cerebellum (talk) 23:13, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- "Pretty sure" isn't good enuf, and in fact there is no reason, in the absence of a document where USGS ordered its creation, to believe that the specifications of WP:COPY#Works by the United States Federal Government include this, especially since G-searches

- "An Introduction to Biological Soil Crusts" site:www.usgs.gov
- produce no hits, and another page on soilcrust.org says of the so-called "USGS Canyonlands Research Station" that "With the creation of the Canyonlands Research Station (CRS), a consortium of federal agencies, local governments, and regional universities have established a research facility". That raises the possibility that "USGS Canyonlands Research Station" may be an entity USGS created as part of its participation in CRS, embodied by nothing more than a pigeonhole in the mailroom of the Federal office building (which houses what Google considers the 58 US Gov't entities constituing All businesses at 2290 Resource Blvd, Moab, UT 84532 (ignore their coordinates, mistaken by about ⅓ mile) and visible along an ENE bearing from "2424 US Highway 191", Moab, UT -- and that the author in no sense even works for the USGS.
