Article name[edit]

This man was the 1st to hold the Maclean Baronets.

See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (names and titles)#British peerage

4. Baronets, as they hold hereditary titles, often for a large part of their lives, follow the same practice as hereditary peers and should have their title noted in the beginning of the article. The format is Sir John Smith, 17th Baronet. For the article title, this format should only be used when disambiguation is necessary; otherwise, the article should be located at John Smith. John Smith, 17th Baronet should never be used with the postfix and without the prefix.

It may be that the name should be at Lachlan Maclean but looking at Clan Maclean, this could be confused with other Lachlan Maclean so we are justified in using the format Baronnet but the of Morern should not be included. --PBS (talk) 07:11, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't it be "baronet" instead of "baron"?--Celtus (talk) 07:45, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, that is what is used the at the Clan Maclean webpage, they seem to be following the rules we are discussing, using the simplest unambiguous name. They use "Bt.", but we should use the full "Baronet". Don't worry about all the name changes, we keep leaving useful redirects as we make the changes. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 07:54, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He was knighted during his elder brother's lifetime[edit]

The redirect Baronetage of Nova Scotia redirects to a section in List of extant baronetcies which claims that this Lachlan Maclean was awarded his baronet on 3 September 1631, (MACLEAN of Morvaren,Argyll, Leigh Rayment's list of baronets , 3 September 2008) as does the article in Maclean Baronets ( I have just retrofitted the above citation to that article).

If the Baronetage of Nova Scotia is correct then if the date he inherited the chiften ship is correct, then he could not have been "He was knighted during his elder brother's lifetime as Sir Lauchlan MacLean of Morvern" as we record that his elder brother died in 1629. So one of the two sources has to be wrong. --PBS (talk) 10:02, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
