If there is 415v between 3 phase then why there is only 230v between 1phase. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.98.71.6 (talk) 06:11, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is not clear to me why single phase power lines can't be used to produce 'revolving magnetic fields'. Maybe this should have some explanation or a refence? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.141.47.119 (talk) 10:21, 29 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • To have a rotating field three-phase lines are used because you can get from a 3-phase line three separate single-phase lines that are 120 degrees out of phase from one another. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.27.152.243 (talk) 20:16, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Single phase motor wiring[edit]

Perhaps that

the image to the right can be added to this article ? Also, an image of 3-phase windings should be shown (and perhaps 2-phase windings) so that it is clear what the differences in phases mean to the construction of an engine.

No, way past WP:UNDUE. The only way this diagram could justify itself would be in a detailed article on induction motors, to the level of the article it was taken from. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:06, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Single phase supply from three phase transformer.[edit]

There are only two ways of obtaining a single phase supply from a three phase transformer (distribution or otherwise). Connection from phase to neutral (if the transformer has a neutral available) or between two phases. [User:Tim@] has twice edited in an irrelevant qualification, "(without conversion)" into the third paragraph of the article, linking to an article about AC or DC to AC or DC conversion. This is out of place because the paragraph is specifically about obtaining the single phase supply from a three phase transformer of which there are precisely the two methods mentioned and no other. Using a converter in between is not obtaining the single phase supply from a three phase transformer, but from somewhere else which may be powered by the transformer.

In fact the entire paragraph is out of place in the lede because it is not mentioned in the main body of the article (the lede is a summary of the rest of the article). 109.152.184.169 (talk) 12:36, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
