Article name[edit]

While a fine article, shouldn't the name be "Shipley and Windhill railway station"? See Wikipedia:WikiProject_London#Naming_conventions for the naming convention used widely in the UK articles and beyond. MGSpiller 20:29, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You say that 'Shipley and Windhill Station' was possibly also 'Shipley East'. Please give a reference for this: I haven't come across it in any books that I can remember, and in particular Dewick does not list it. What does 'possibly' mean in this context?

Your sentence 'although the line was used to take goods across Bradford as a shortcut' is confusing as it stands, so I've removed it. If you're saying that it continued thus after 1964, I don't think that's correct, as the books say the line closed South of Idle in 1964, and Bairstow says that by 1969 the track had been lifted. If you mean earlier, I'm not sure what the statement adds. Please restore and clarify it if you think there is a point that needs making.

I've removed "And the former goods yard is now a scrapyard", as I don't think it is correct. The goods yard was much bigger than that, and I'm pretty sure that the whole of the new end of Thackley Old Road and the closes off it were all goods yard - the other side of Dock Lane. The scrapyard is on the site of the passenger station, I think. The 1906 Ordnance Survey map should show this, but I haven't got that section at home. I'll have a look at the library if I get the chance.

In fact the relevant part of the 1893 map is reproduced in Birdsall, Michael (2002). Bradford's Suburbs. ISBN 1-85983-309-8. in the 'Windhill' chapter. The tracks were just west of the station, and the area between those and the lines into Shipley station is not identified as anything, so I ghess it was some kind of station yard. But the 'goods depot' is clearly identified to the east of Dock Lane. --ColinFine 17:48, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have now written the Article on Thackley Tunnel and would be honoured if you could point out and edit any errors in the article. I cannot provide evidence for the use of the name Shipley East but having been a resident of the area my entire life I have regulary hear it called Shipley East whether this was mearly a nickname or its actual name I am Unsure. Co-incidently My teacher at school has an Ordanance survey map showing the enitre Branch open in 1968 and the only Station Labelled closed is Thackley Station which ceased to exist in 1931 and ven had a photo of a Jubilee travelling towards Laisterdyke during the time the Branch line was supposedly closed beyond Idle, Talk of it being used as a rat run across Bradford came from the same source who worked in the LMR's good co-ordination office for the Local area. --44532 16:59, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
