NOT the oldest standing dam in California[edit]

...Though you'd bet it was by it's construction date! (1904)... as I found out last night, the ACTUAL oldest dam in California is unknown... Less than a mile east of The Sherwood Dam is an even older one, The Lake Elseanor Dam. Also within Westlake Village city limits, It was completed in 1889! Good job, NortyNort! (you're a genius) I think the Lake Elseanor Dam deserves an article, too, especially if it is California's oldest standing dam. Someone needs to compile a list of them. I figured, the "Thousand Oaks General Plan Safety Element" source I added yesterday stated that is was one of the oldest. I would think an embankment dam-type would be the oldest (just maybe not operational). Really old dams in the U.S. tend to be concrete or masonry though. I will use that in replacement of Cit#2 as that source doesn't seem to have information from the lead in it, for verification. I will read through the article again today and make any changes or add info if needed. I can help start a Lake Elseanor Dam article, it seems to be notable. If you are interested in dams, we have a Dams Project on Wikipedia that concentrates on these types of articles. Feel free to join. A friendly neighbor who owns the Foxfield Ranch showed it to me and let me take a few iPhone pictures. I also have photos of the back, which contains, in cursive, the name of the photographer, "John S. Appleton, Simi Valley".. his toolshed is a museum on the subject, and he was more than happy to hear I was helping Wikipedia. Seanydelight (talk) 04:10, 23 June 2011 (UTC)Seanydelight[reply]
