Role of Media

Media is the source of communication through which we receive and share information by its various means. There are two types of media: electronic and print media. In both the types of media different tools are used to receive and share information. For example TV, radio computer, newspapers, magazines, and books are different types of giving information. Media plays an important role providing public news, entertainment programs along with advertisements. It is a responsible source creates awareness among the people about events and situations happening around. Media has great impact on our lives. This paper explores the types, importance, responsibility of media including its impacts on our daily lives. There are two main types of media; electronic and print media. In electronic media we have television, radio, telephone and computer while In print media newspapers, magazines and books are means of information. The electronic media is very quick source of communication. The television broadcasts news, and different programs such as debates, education, health, sports and entertainment. The computer provides us online facilities to provide information where we receive and sent emails and explore many things on the internet. With the advancement in modern communication technologies radio is hardly used. On the other hand print media is as popular as electronic media is. We buy a variety of newspapers from the market and keep ourselves up to date on a daily basis. Besides newspaper magazines and books are also the important source of information which enrich ourselves in academic and professional lives. So media by its various types provide information through different channels and medium to enrich audience, viewers and readers with news and other programs. Media plays an important role in various aspects of our life. The media helps us to know what is happening around. It is important because we learn about the values have a pertinent role in our lives. It aware us about the rights we deserve. Media help us to get information through its various programs such as social, educational and religious programs. Media also plays an important role in our academic and professional lives through online educational programs. The electronic media has decreased the distance between countries of the world to a greater extend. It provides help to the countries of the world to sustain their diplomatic relationships with each other and this relationship shape with the passage of time under the influence of media. The importance of media in our social, educational, and economical life cannot be denied because it has decreased the distance between ourselves many countries of the world.

There are many responsibilities of the media. Both the types of media have their own way of responsibilities. The first responsibility is to bring right information to the audience. While broadcasting the news and programs they follow some rules and regulations they abide by. Media cannot broadcast those news and programs which are unethical and against the values and integrity of the people. There are certain limitations within which media plays its role. Good media cannot add their own judgements and comments on the events they broadcast. The reporter of media should focus on the facts and ground realities rather their own opinions. So, the media’s main responsibility is to present information, following the rules they abide by, without polluting the real information with the anchors own opinions. Media has great impact on our society. Whatever is broadcast in the media whether through electronic or print media, people make their mind by watching, hearing and reading, that’s why mind making through media is a daily life process. Our values, which are the part and parcel of our life, are being affected by media. Media impacts on our political, social, psychological and economical values and aspects of life. The impacts of media on our lives are multi-faceted which are positive as well as negative. So, media as an effective tool in mind making, has a great impact on our various values and aspects of life. In short media is the source of communication through which we receive and share information by its various types and means. Media by its various types provide information through different channels and medium to enrich audience, viewers and readers with news and other programs.
