Article Name[edit]

Anybody else think this article needs a more clear name? There are probably hundreds, if not thousands, of Shell Service Stations in the US. This one is the only "Shell"(-shaped) Shell Service Station, to be sure, but I think the generic phrase "Shell Service Station" should link to Royal Dutch Shell or gas station. How about Shell service station (North Carolina)? ptkfgs 21:16, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The official name, via the second footnote and the National Register of Historic Places is "Shell Service Station." Given that there are a large number of places on the register, over 10,000 it is possible that duplicate names occur in which case the associated Wikiproject likes to go with such things as Shell Service Station (Winston-Salem). Service station is more appropriate than gas station because gas stations only provide gas, service station provide a bit more, oil changes and the like, and I don't think that has much of anything to do with where anyone lives re:God of War's edit summary. That's just my two cents. A mcmurray 10:48, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And I must add, though Shell Service Station is seemingly generic, how many of the thousands of Shell locations on Earth warrant a wikipedia entry? A mcmurray 10:50, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In respone to A mcmurray, from the article on gas stations: "Many gas stations also have convenience stores which sell food, beverages, cigarettes, lottery tickets, motor oil, and sometimes auto parts. Prices for these and other items tend to be higher at convenience stores than they would be at a supermarket or discount store."

- so a gas station can provide more than just gas. I don't know of anyone that doesn't call the gas stations because of the extra stuff.--God of War 19:46, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Folly[edit]

Does this building fall more into the category of novelty architecture rather than folly? Mimicing the shape of a shell, rather than the ruins of a castle? See also: Category:Novelty architecture vs. Category:Folly buildingsDogears 16:48, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correct name[edit]

I've moved the article back to its correct name as the National Register of Historic Places lists this as "Shell Service Station". This is the only Shell Service Station with its own Wikipedia article, and it's probably the most famous Shell Service Station in the world, so there is no need to add extra disambiguation. If anyone does search for Shell Service Station and expects to find an article about filling stations in general, then I've added a link to the Filling station article in the first line. If there is ever another Shell station that gets an article on Wikipedia, then it can be disambiguated. Magnetic hill 23:30, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
