Image copyright problem with Image:Wigan v Bath 1996 match programme.jpg[edit]

The image Image:Wigan v Bath 1996 match programme.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Short description[edit]

The purpose of a Short description is to provide help when somebody searches for an article — which of the articles listed in the search results is the correct one?

A short description is not intended to be a definition – see WP:SDNOTDEF.
A short description is intended to be short – see WP:SD40.

So, in this case, we are talking about a rugby player who is also a rugby coach.

The SD was English rugby league footballer and rugby union coach. This is a too long at 53 characters, so a simple shortening to English rugby footballer and coach is short enough, but implies that he may be a current player.
Shortening the Short description to English rugby coach and former player results in a SD of 37 characters. It includes a nationality, says that he was a player and is a coach and so meets all of the requirements. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 09:00, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Rugby=rugby union to the vast majority of people. That is the opposite of what you want to be saying as he was a rugby (league) footballer, and is a rugby (union) coach. You may as well have no short description if you are going to insist on a shit description.Fleets (talk) 09:17, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Rugby is a game with two teams and a ball and most people on the planet probably think of it as a strange form of American football. The union vs league thing is not a thing for most people and the Short description is not the place for such a detail.
I don't think crowing your ignorance of the article's subject is a compelling argument. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Local Potentate (talkcontribs) 11:31, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We could go with no SD as you suggest, but maybe a better one would be English rugby union coach. Coach would imply player / ex-player anyway — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 09:42, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Rugby Union coach & former Rugby League footballer. What is he; that covers it using accurate language that is not offensive to either sport, nor followers of those two very distinct and separate sports.Fleets (talk) 09:53, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What Short description would you suggest that is 40 characters or shorter — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 10:00, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Then remove it altogether. With language today what you've said is verging on hate crime territory for the minority sport as it is now.Fleets (talk) 10:02, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The question needs to be viewed at the level of — is this article about a film actor, an author, a pole-vaulter, a politician or a rugby coach? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 10:08, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an either/or. I'm not assuming dominance one way or the other and I wouldn't presume to in a case where he could be considered a household name in his two distinct careers.Fleets (talk) 13:44, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The short description is intended to be short – see WP:SD40GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:13, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm quite sure it isn't meant to be offensive either. I do also hope that was not your intention.Fleets (talk) 20:47, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
